Beef Stew

Keyword: beef stew

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds of beef cubes
  • 2 tbsp of olive oil
  • 1 tsp of kosher salt
  • ½ tsp of black pepper
  • 2 tbsp of flour
  • 1 large carrot, sliced into small chunks
  • 4 cloves of minced garlic
  • ½ chopped yellow onion
  • 2 cups of beef broth
  • 2 large large potatoes cut into 2-inch pieces
  • 1 bay leaf
  • ¼ cup of tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp of Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tsp of thyme leaves

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit (you can also make this in the slow cooker).

  • Use the salt and pepper to thoroughly season the beef. Sprinkle with flour and coat the beef completely.

  • Warm the olive oil on medium in a Dutch oven.

  • Cook the beef until it is brown on all sides, but don’t bother to cook it completely right now. You will cook it all the way through later on. Set the beef aside once it has browned.

  • Add the carrots, onions, and garlic to the Dutch oven. Stir it as it cooks for about 3 minutes, until the food starts to brown slightly.

  • Add in the beef broth, tomato paste, potatoes, thyme, bay leaf, and Worcestershire sauce. Scrape the bottom of the pot to remove the browned food that may be stuck there.

  • Warm your mixture and cook until it simmers, then stir and add in the beef, covering the Dutch over afterwards. Then, move the food to the preheated oven.

  • Let the stew cook for 2-2 ½ hours, and it should cook until the beef has become tender. Add in additional salt and pepper, if needed, and serve your stew hot.

Garlic Butter Steak Cubes

If you want recipes using stew beef cubes not slow cooker style, then try this one. It’s a bit simpler than the other recipes I have given you so far and great mid-week use for your steak cubes when you don’t want to spend a lot of time making the food.

I would pair this one with some potatoes, veggies, pasta, or bread. This is one of those lovely recipes using stew beef cubes French cooks will use often, and you can make it yourself in minutes.

Garlic Butter Steak Cubes

Keyword: garlic butter steak

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ pound of steak cubes ( you can use sirloin, strip steak, strip loin, rib eye, or tenderloin)
  • 1 tbsp of olive oil
  • ½ tsp of salt
  • ½ tsp of pepper
  • 4 minced cloves of garlic
  • 2 tbsp of butter
  • ¼ tsp of red pepper flakes
  • 1 tbsp of chopped fresh parsley

Instructions

  • Heat up olive oil in a skillet on high heat. When the oil is hot, add in your steak cubes. Use salt and pepper to season them well.

  • Cook the steak for about 2 minutes. This ensures that they get seared nicely. Cook for an additional 2 minutes to brown them slightly. This may need to be done in a few batches if your skillet isn’t big enough to accommodate all the beef at once.

  • Move the steak to a plate and then add in butter to your skillet. Turn the heat down to medium. Once your butter melts, add in red pepper flakes and garlic. Cook these for just 30 seconds- long enough to let the garlic start giving off a scent and turn brown.

  • Serve by covering the steak with garlic butter and use parsley to garnish.
