What are the Best Type of Apples to Use?

Gala apples are my favorite because they are mild and sweet. They taste amazing in this recipe! If you’d like to make it a little less sweet, try using Granny Smith Apples.

Can You Use Any Type of Biscuit?

For this recipe, it is important to use flaky-style biscuits because they are made to pull apart into layers. This is crucial for putting our apple filling between slices and for getting the “pull apart” effect after baking. Southern style biscuits are crumbly as opposed to flaky, so they won’t be right for this recipe.

How to Make Apple Pull Apart Bread

Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes at 350°F.(We like our biscuits a little on the softer side – if you prefer yours a bit more “done” bake for 35 minutes).

Remove foil cover and continue baking until golden brown (about 5-8 minutes).

Remove from the oven and allow to cool about 5 minutes in pan before placing bread on another surface.

Drizzle glaze liberally over the top of the country apple fritter bread, allowing glaze to run down the sides.

FAQs

Why are my homemade apple fritters soggy? ›

Why are my apple fritters soggy? This is most likely the result of oil temperature. If your oil is too cool, your fritters will take a long time to fry and will end up greasy.

Is an apple fritter a donut or pastry? ›

Are Apple Fritters Donuts? While Apple Fritters aren't your typical cake or yeasted donut, they are certainly donuts! I use a yeasted donut dough, fill it with cooked and sweetened cinnamon apples, form it into fritters and give them a quick fry in my dutch oven on the stove.

How to reheat apple fritters? ›

Tip: Leftover fritters can be reheated the next day in a 350°F oven for 8 minutes.

Does baking soda make fritters crispy? ›

Is baking soda or powder best for frying? A pinch of baking soda can help produce crispy fried foods. It reacts with the acid in the batter to create carbon dioxide bubbles. These lead to an airy batter and a crisper, fluffier result.

Why do you put baking powder in fritters? ›

They just need a simple, light batter of flour, cornstarch, and baking powder mixed with seltzer to tie them together. The seltzer and baking powder ensure that the fritters are shatteringly crisp–even slightly tired vegetables emerge from the oil crunchy, fresh, and sweet.

Are bear claws and apple fritters the same? ›

A bear claw is a folded circle of danish dough that is filled with almond paste and then slit multiple times so they open up in the oven resembling a claw. An apple fritter is a thick batter of diced apples, cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice with a chemical leavening that is dropped by the 1/2 cup into a deep fryer.

What is a dough fritter? ›

fritter, any of various types of fried foods, generally consisting of small pieces of meat, vegetables, fruit, or dough. Plain fritters are deep-fried cakes of chou paste or a yeast dough. In another type, bits of meat, seafood, vegetables, or fruit are coated with batter and deep-fried.

Does Krispy Kreme make apple fritters? ›

Apple Fritters are a classic. Handmade with apple filling, diced apples and plenty of cinnamon, this new fritter is glazed to perfection.

Why are my fritters not crispy? ›

The most common causes for soggy fritters are too much batter (basic flour and egg batter like used in pancakes will never cook up crispy), and whatever you're frittering leeches too much water when cooking.

Do apple fritters go bad? ›

Once opened, apple fritters last up to 2 days in the refrigerator. If frozen, store-bought or homemade apple fritters can last up to 3 months. How do you tell if Apple Fritters is bad? To tell if apple fritters have gone bad, check for any signs of mold or unusual colors.

Does McDonald's have apple fritters? ›

"McDonald's are currently phasing out the three bakery items that were released on Oct 28th, 2020. The goods are the Apple Fritter, Blueberry Muffin and the Cinnamon Roll. Get them while you still can, they'll be discontinued by July 15th 2023.”

How do you make fritters less soggy? ›

Larger eggs have more water from the egg white, resulting in wetter batter and soggy fritters. Add flour to your wet batter! Most veggies have a high water content (which we know equals soggy fritters). Adding flour to a wetter batter will give you the thick consistency need to make the perfect batter.

How do you fix soggy fritters? ›

Recipe Notes:

Batter consistency is key to good fritters. If too runny, add a touch of extra flour (otherwise fritters soggy inside). If way too thick, add a touch of water. It does come down to how juicy / how well the water was removed from the zucchinis.

How do you stop soggy fritters? ›

Tips and Tricks
  1. Squeeze out any excess water from the vegetables such as potatoes and zucchini after grating to prevent soggy fritters.
  2. If you find the mixture is too wet, add additional flour.
  3. Try and make the fritters approximately the same size so that they cook evenly in the oven.
