The Art of Slowing Down (2024)

With the Spanish Grand Prix coming to Barcelona in less than two weeks, I thought it would be a great time to send out Part II of “Barcelona’s Culinary Secrets: A Guide to the City’s Hidden Gems”. Let me know your thoughts!

Sucursal Aceitera – This one is a recent favorite. Sucursal’s team creates and prepares à la carte and menu dishes with seasonal products from the garden which is located in Esparreguera at the foot of Montserrat. The menu changes based on the products being grown in the garden and the time of year. They also have a great selection of wines and their team can recommend options based on your desired taste and price. Our favorite dishes are:

Café De París – This one is a hidden gem located in the Turo Parc neighborhood of Barcelona. Chef Jordi Cunill relaunched this classic from Barcelona and does so respecting its essence from 50 years ago, but with a fresher and spicier touch. A renewed version of himself that he is committed to maintaining the usual staff, with its characteristic elegance and savoir faire, in addition to its star dishes.

Chef Cunill preserves the menu of classics, such as the Café de Parisentrecôte or the Chateaubriand steak, legendary chickpeas and grilled fish. The menu is designed to be shared, emphasizing excellence in product quality without too many masks at an honest price that will make the visit to the newCafé de Pariseven better if possible.

I would highly recommend starting the evening off with a co*cktail (their martinis are great) and move on to a bottle of wine with your meal. They have an excellent wine list at fair prices and if you’re celebrating, I would recommend the Montrachet that they have in their cellar.

Solange co*cktail Bar – Located in the heart of Barcelona, there is a refuge for lovers of luxury, mixology and exceptional hospitality. Solange co*cktail & Luxury Spirits, a corner of distinction and excellence that has been redefining the art of co*cktails and the customer experience since its inception. Their co*cktails are crafted to perfection (another great place for a martini before dinner). If you plan on going I would recommend smart casual attire at a minimum as there is a doorman and they will turn people away if you’re not dressed appropriately.

Garage Bar – A place for natural wineloversin the heart of Barcelona! Here, you will not only immerse yourself in the essence ofnatural wines, you will also discover a variety of dishes, tapas, cold cuts, artisan cheeses, craft beer, organic spirits and homemade desserts. They also have a natural wine store with hundreds of different labels waiting for you! Highly recommend letting their team recommend wine based on your taste and trying something that you normally wouldn’t order at home.

Bronzo – A great bacaro with shared plates and the atmosphere of an Italian tavern. The restaurant offers a seasonal changing menu, stone oven baked ‘pizzette’ and homemade fresh pasta. Italian cheeses and cured meats are available at the Salumeria and also you can drop in to our bar area for an spritz or a glass of Italian wine!

Lamun Thai – I love Thai cuisine and have always found it incredibly difficult to find a good Thai restaurant in Barcelona. I could not be more excited to have found Lamun! Their team is passionate about bringing you the authentic flavors of Thailand and the restaurant is a modern culinary experience with traditional recipes, made with the freshest and highest quality ingredients. My favorite dish by far is the Krapow with chicken. I would also recommend classics like the Pad Thai, chicken satay and mango salad.

Parking Pizza – This restaurant opened in Barcelona in what used to be a parking garage in 2015.The experience is all about the space and pizza. We are committed to unique, bright spaces. The pizzas are made from long-fermented dough and fresh, essentially Mediterranean products. The sobrasada picante pizza is my favorite.

El Xampanyet – This is a small family run tapas bar in Born. The food is phenomenal and if you’re looking for great tapas is a close, lively atmosphere, this is the place! There will most likely be a line, however it moves fast and is worth the wait.
