This is my power, and I'm not using it to run away anymore. I'm using it to protect... my... friends!
— Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog (film)
Sonic the Hedgehog, also known as Movie Sonic across other media, is the titular main protagonist of the Sonic the Hedgehog film series produced by Paramount Pictures and its spin-offs. He is an anthropomorphic alien hedgehog with super speed who hails from Mobius.
After being forced to flee to Earth to escape those seeking his power, Sonic remained in hiding for ten years until he accidentally made his presence known, becoming the target of the sinister Dr. Robotnik. However, thanks to the help of Tom Wachowski, Sonic managed to defeat Dr. Robotnik, and banished him from Earth and establish himself a better life with the Wachowski family.
As time went on, Sonic tried beginning a superhero career with limited success. Regardless, his moment came when Robotnik returned with Knuckles the Echidna, seeking the Master Emerald. Teaming up with his new ally Tails, Sonic embarked on a globetrotting adventure to stop Robotnik, during which he befriended Knuckles. After defeating Robotnik, Sonic forms a new order with Tails and Knuckles to safeguard the Master Emerald from evil.

Sonic the Hedgehog is a blue Hedgehog from Mobius who can run at supersonic speeds. He fled to Earth to escape the Echidna tribe, leaving behind his mentor Longclaw. Living in Green Hills, Montana for much of his life, Sonic accidentally caused an energy surge that drew the attention of the United States Armed Forces. He subsequently lost his rings in a confrontation with Tom Wachowski and required him to venture to San Francisco. With the efforts of Tom and his wife Maddie Wachowski, they thwarted Dr. Ivo Robotnik’s plans for world domination, ultimately banishing him to another planet. Now entrusted by the Wachowski Family, Sonic was allowed to stay at their residence.
After being revealed to the public, Sonic focused on becoming a well-renowned superhero, brainstorming various alter-egos as he went along. Upon hearing about the incident in Walla Walla, Washington, he obliged himself to save the hostages in the First Bank of Walla Walla, stopping the forces of Jason and Lindsey's crew.
After adopting the name Blue Justice, Sonic was advised to wait for the right moment to use his abilities. Unexpectedly, Robotnik, now calling himself Doctor Eggman, returned with Knuckles the Echidna, seeking revenge and in search of the Master Emerald. Sonic was accompanied by his admirer Tails in a worldwide search of the emerald, during which Sonic and Knuckles made amends. Now as a team, they faced Eggman and his giant robot, with Sonic harnessing the seven Chaos Emeralds to become Super Sonic, ultimately defeating Eggman and welcomed his friends into the Wachowski family.
With his newfound team, Sonic and his friends visited the Green Hills Junkyard that they have been requested to investigate by deputy sheriff Wade Whipple. They fought a sentient Flying Egg Badnik with sentience named Unit which they befriended.
While Knuckles tried to get used to Earth, Sonic tried to guide Knuckles with methods to relax and accept his new home, although this ended in Knuckles being grounded for making the house more warrior-like.

Appearance[]
Sonic is an anthropomorphic hedgehog with predominantly blue fur. He has small, triangular ears on the top of his head, seven quills that extend from the back of his head, with three on his back and a tail. He also has green eyes, a black nose, and peach fur on his stomach and muzzle, with his muzzle fur extending to the center of his nose ridge. His eyes in particular glow blue whenever he utilizes his chaos energy powers. In his younger years, Sonic sported a much shorter stature, complete with shorter limbs and quills, more dilated pupils, and a slightly more visible neck. Several months after his first bout with Dr. Robotnik, Sonic had grown considerably larger in size, now almost a head taller than Ozzy sitting on his hind legs. For attire, Sonic wears a pair of white gloves, a pair of white socks and red Puma Dare-based sneakers with white straps, white soles and yellow tags. Originally in the first film, these sneakers were depicted with Puma's branding, with Puma's logomark present on the yellow tags and the back of the shoes, Although from the second film onwards these logomarks were removed. For prior footwear, he wore mismatched shoes that were completely worn out; a left greenish-gray sneaker and a right white trainer with tape around it, and when he was a baby, he wore a pair of basic, small, brown boots.
Personality[]
Sonic is adventurous, lively, fun-loving, and confident. A thrill-seeker; who has a passion for enjoying life, he loves running fast and free, which much of his early childhood was spent doing. But he is also quite reckless and quick to act before thinking. This tends to sometimes make him disobey authority, which has gotten himself and those around him into trouble more than once; such as; when he had used his super speed in the open despite being told by Longclaw the Giant Owl not to do so or; when he went into the Piston Pit; instead of staying in Tom's truck as he was told to. Sonic usually keeps a laid-back and easygoing demeanor. However, he is still a kid at heart, and is as such very energetic, extremely talkative, and always ready for new exploits. Owning to his lively spirit, Sonic is happy about going on adventures and is always very enthusiastic about trying new things and ready to see new places. Notably, when he thought he was leaving Earth, this attitude was cranked up to eleven, as he wanted to soak up everything on Earth while he still had the time. Because he is so adventurous however, being constrained can often make him impatient and uneasy, which, at one time made him unable to resist the temptation to visit the Piston Pit. While no stranger to worry, Sonic is usually fearless and cool under pressure when pushed against the wall, although he can be a bit impatient in serious situations. As such, he is ready to talk back to intimidating thugs and would usually banter with Dr. Robotnik during their violent encounters. This confidence in the face of dangers has given Sonic a mischievous sense of humor; he enjoys toying with his opponents, whether it is by verbally teasing or taunting his foes, or by playing pranks or overwhelming them using his super speed. Sonic also tends to give people nicknames, such as calling Tom "Donut Lord", Maddie "Pretzel Lady", and Robotnik "Eggman". He also enjoys making jokes and pretending to be other people. Possessing a big ego that; stems from Sonic's positive attitude, he always tries to be positive, even when he does not want to be, and thinks he can get out of nearly any problem with his powers. This state of mind gives him a cocky attitude, a high opinion about himself, and prompts him to crack jokes in even the worst of situations. His cockiness also extends to pride in his appearance, as he occasionally brags about how good-looking he thinks he is. However, Sonic's ego is not to be confused with pride or arrogance, as Sonic does not see himself as more important than others. In fact, Sonic is very benevolent and shows a lot of friendliness towards most living things he comes in contact with; after saving a turtle from becoming roadkill, Sonic took for a ride so it could experience being fast for a change, although he accidentally traumatized it in the process. A similar instance happened when he met Ozzy despite being miffed that Ozzy held the position as Tom's best friend. Sonic similarly puts others before himself, refusing to put others in danger because of himself, and will risk his life to save innocent people, friends, or even animals. Even when it comes to his enemies, Sonic is willing to rescue them when they face an otherwise unfortunate fate or injury. After living in self-imposed exile on Earth for 10 years, Sonic became extremely lonely and longed to make connections with real friends, with one of the things on his bucket list being to make a real friend. Fortunately, he eventually found a connection in the Wachowski family, and by extension, the inhabitants of Green Hills. Due to his loneliness, Sonic has also developed a habit of talking to himself or inanimate objects when he has no one else to talk to, which is difficult due to his talkative nature, or when he feels alone. Despite his quirks, Sonic is clever and quick-thinking, as shown by him plucking off one of his quills to grab a Ring when it was just out of his reach or taking advantage of Dr. Robotnik's obsessive hatred of him to distract him with taunts. Maddie has also described Sonic as a "smart kid". Due to Sonic spent much of his life on Earth, he has taken a great interest in Earth's culture, and has picked up many interests and hobbies, such as baseball, playing guitar, watching action movies, keeping tabs on celebrities, and reading comic books. However, Sonic's hobbies, combined with his lack of experience dealing with humans, gives him a slightly unrealistic view of the world and causes him to occasionally act irrationally, such as mimicking the characters in Speed by starting a fight with the people in the Piston Pit. Sonic also has a habit of mimicking heroes from fictional stories, such as comic books and detective movies. Sonic is highly protective of his powers. After losing Longclaw because others sought his powers, a traumatized Sonic was willing to spend years running away and living in hiding, much to his own frustration and sadness, so that no one would discover him and try to steal his powers. During the climax of his first battle against Robotnik however, upon realizing that he had people on Earth who cared about him, he resolved to use them to protect his friends. Sonic's new-found devotion to protecting others also opened his eyes to the superhero lifestyle; which he has gained a taste for; due to the excitement it provides. As such, he strives towards becoming a hero in his own right; which is exemplified in the superhero nicknames he comes up for himself. While he sees his heroics as chances to get some thrills in his otherwise peaceful lifestyle, Sonic is nonetheless genuinely motivated by a strong desire to use his powers for good and help people out with them. But his inexperience as a hero prompts him to act rather reckless and rush into chances to prove himself without an actual plan in mind. But despite Sonic's positive demeanor, however, Sonic possesses something of a vengeful side, which manifests itself when his loved ones are in danger; a prime example being during the climax of the fight for the Master Emerald: after absorbing the Chaos Emeralds and transforming into Super Sonic, rather than quipping or taunting Dr. Robotnik during their fight like he did before, Sonic simply glared at him in unbridled fury and quickly took down his mech with brutal, merciless efficiency before toppling it and supposedly sending the doctor to his demise to ensure he never threatened Sonic, his adoptive family, or the Earth ever again.
Concept And Design[]
The production crew used Ted, the living teddy bear from the Ted films made by Universal Pictures, as an influence on making a live-action Sonic the Hedgehog and studied different variations of the character to develop the character's final design. Due to the negative criticism of Sonic's original design, it was eventually decided that Sonic had to undergo a redesign. This redesign was handled by Tyson Hesse. When re-designing Sonic, the team started with Sonic's face. They compared the design shown in the initial trailer with the "Modern Sonic" design and tried to find a compromise between the two. A new rig also had to be created based on the new design and then everything would have to be reanimated using that rig. Although some old animations were able to be salvaged and reused, many had to be animated from scratch. Animator Max Schneider stated that the redesign took around 5 months and was achieved without stressful overtime. Between the first and second film, Sonic has a notable increase in height. In Sonic the Hedgehog, his height only goes up to Tom's upper thigh, while in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, his height goes up to Tom's torso. According to Tyson Hesse, this was done to make Sonic's, alongside Tails' and Knuckles', height in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 match how his main series counterpart's height is compared to human characters in the games. By the time of the third film, Sonic's look is relatively unchanged, but appears to be a bit more muscular as his torso appears bigger, and his chest occasionally features a small divot that signifies where his pecs would be.
History[]
Sonic the Hedgehog (2020)[]
Past[]
Sonic was born on an island on the alien planet Mobius where he spent his childhood living under the watchful eye of an anthropomorphic owl named Longclaw. He possessed the rare ability to harness chaos energy which gave him super speed, but also made him a target for those who selfishly wanted the power for themselves. One day, Sonic raced across his island home to bring Longclaw a flower, much to the owl's concern, as she feared he might have been followed. Sonic expressed confidence that he was moving too fast to be seen, but Longclaw notices that echidna tribesmen have surrounded her house and grabs the hedgehog as she takes flight in an attempt to escape. Unfortunately, Longclaw is shot down from the sky by an arrow by one of them, so she uses a golden warp ring to open a portal to Earth and tells Sonic that as long as others know about his power, he will always be in danger by those seeking to take it. She then instructs him to take her bag of Gold Rings and head through the portal so he can live safely in a world oblivious to his existence. Sonic can only watch as Longclaw heroically prepares to make a final stand against the approaching echidnas before the portal closes, cutting him off from her, leaving him all alone on Earth.
Present[]
10 years later, Sonic is left alone on Earth to build his new life there in secret, living in a cave and watching the citizens of Green Hills, Montana, USA from afar. None of them knew about Sonic's existence besides an elderly man called Crazy Carl, who claims him to be a blue devil and has tried to catch him several times without success, which Sonic takes enjoyment in. Among the citizens of Green Hills, Sonic's favorite people are Green Hills Sheriff Tom Wachowski and his wife, the veterinarian Doctor Maddie Wachowski. One night, Sonic used his super speed to play round of baseball all by himself and realized just how lonely he really was. He tried to run off his frustrations, but ran so fast that he caused an electromagnetic pulse that knocks out power across the Pacific Northwest. This catches the attention of the United States Department of Defense when word reaches their headquarters at the Pentagon in Arlington, and despite some concern from the Joint Chiefs, Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Commander Walters decides to acquire help from the deranged genius Dr. Robotnik in seeking out what caused the power outage. Sonic immediately becomes distraught as U.S. Army soldiers begin to comb the area near his cave with search dogs and Dr. Robotnik's Badnik drones and reluctantly decides to initiate his backup plan: use a Gold Ring to travel to a seemingly barren planet covered with gigantic mushrooms. Sonic quickly packs the equipment he wants to take, but feels it is not safe to open a portal with the soldiers closing in on his location, especially with their search dogs. He instead races into the Wachowski backyard shed to use a Ring where it is safer, but is discovered by Tom Wachowski, who shoots him in the thigh with a tranquilizer dart after both are startled by the other and scream in horror. As Sonic passes out, he mumbles the location on Tom's shirt, San Francisco, which opens a Warp Ring to the city before he accidentally drops his bag of Rings through it, which land on the roof of the Transamerica Pyramid. Sonic soon awakens inside the Wachowski household and convinces Tom to help him stay hidden from his pursuers just as Dr. Robotnik arrives at the front door. Tom tries to hoax Dr. Robotnik into leaving as Sonic hides in the attic, but the doctor uses his airborne robot drones to scan the property, forcing the hedgehog to go downstairs to avoid detection. However, when Sonic discovers that Tom was in danger, he reveals himself to Dr. Robotnik to save Wachowski's life. Tom uses this distraction to knock Dr. Robotnik unconscious before Sonic stops a robot drone from shooting them by hopping onto and destroying it. Although the pair manage to drive out of Greens Hills safely, Tom pulled over to part ways with Sonic, despite the latter having no idea where he must go to reclaim his bag of Rings. He makes a single attempt going to San Francisco on his own using super speed, but is unsuccessful, so he persuades Tom to drive him there. On the way, they stop at a bar where Sonic decides to make a bucket list of all the things he wants to do before leaving Earth. He begins to fulfill his list with Tom's help until they soon get involved in a bar fight that Sonic finishes by rearranging things to his advantage within seconds. Sonic and Tom stay the night at an inn before continuing their trip the next day. However, Dr. Robotnik hones in on their location and sends a remote-controlled truck to stop them. The truck launches a harpoon into Tom's truck, causing Sonic to get out and attempt to stop the truck. He tries approaching the pursuing vehicle, but loses his footing just as he suddenly builds up energy. Sonic rolls into a ball to protect himself and bowls over the truck on its side. Unfortunately, another vehicle soon emerges from the truck's wreckage to continue the chase. This vehicle fires EMP discs to slow the heroes down, but Sonic uses them to get on top of their pursuer and uses one to disable it. The remote-controlled vehicle separates again, only to be spun out by Tom, causing a frustrated Dr. Robotnik to deploy a miniature drone to eliminate them. The drone cuts the roof off Tom's truck with a laser before Sonic manages to grab it. But the drone's eye gets stuck on his hand and triggers a self-destruct mechanism, leaving him with little time to dispose of it. Sonic succeeds in getting rid of the explosive device just in time, but is knocked unconscious when he is blown away by the blast. Terrified for Sonic's well-being, Tom takes him to Maddie, who is visiting her sister Rachel and niece Jojo at that time in San Francisco. Maddie manages to revive him. While there, Sonic is granted a gift from Jojo in the form of new shoes to replace his worn-out ones. With the new shoes and Maddie joining Tom in helping Sonic out, they travel to the Transamerica Pyramid, where Tom is able to gain access to the roof due to his position as a law enforcement officer, and Sonic recovers his Ring bag. However, before he can leave for the next world and leave Tom, Maddie, and Earth behind, Sonic is confronted once more by Dr. Robotnik, who is now flying an aircraft called the Eggpod and is accompanied by an army of his drones. Sonic, in order to save Tom and Maddie's lives, pushes them off the building before using his supersonic speed to take out Dr. Robotnik's drones and also save them. However, using one of Sonic's quills he obtained earlier back at Tom's house, Dr. Robotnik is able to enter supersonic speed himself and nearly ruin Sonic's rescue attempt. Sonic manages to get Tom and Maddie, transported by ring portal, and safely back to Green Hills, before dealing with Dr. Robotnik and the Eggpod, having their chase pass through Paris, the Great Wall of China, and the Great Pyramids of Egypt, before Sonic attempts to escape back to Green Hills, but Dr. Robotnik manages to land a powerful hit just as Sonic is about to enter the portal, causing Sonic to be wounded and left at Dr. Robotnik's mercy as they return to Green Hills. Dr. Robotnik prepares to take Sonic back to be dissected to learn the secrets of his powers. Tom then tries to protect Sonic by attacking Dr. Robotnik himself but is quickly overpowered. However, the people of Green Hills rally, led by Wade Whipple, to Tom's aid, angry at Dr. Robotnik for attacking their Sheriff and Sonic, and when Tom declares Sonic his friend, Sonic gains a miraculous second wind, and soon begins to glow with that same power that gave away his location previously, but now in full control of it, intending not to run, but to protect his friends, and unleashes his fury on the Eggpod, severely damaging it before Tom opens a portal to the Mushroom Planet Sonic intended to travel to previously, but deciding Earth is his home now, with a final, powerful spin attack, Sonic destroys the Eggpod and sends it and Dr. Robotnik through the portal, never to threaten anyone again. Sometime later, Tom and Maddie reveal to Sonic that they transferred all his stuff from his cave to their attic, making it up so Sonic can use it as his room and live with them from now on, much to his joy. Commander Walters soon stops by himself to reveal to Tom and Maddie that any and all information about recent events regarding Sonic and Dr. Robotnik has been erased by the authority of the U.S. government, and to keep Tom and Maddie quiet about it, offers them an Olive Garden gift card as thanks. Sonic soon settles into his new life living in Green Hills with Tom and Maddie, now among friends at last, proving that his earlier fears and warning from Longclaw were no longer needed.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (2022)[]
Sonic has been living happily with the Wachowskis for some time, but growing restless, he has been sneaking out of the Wachowski house and Green Hills to do some vigilante work. His latest adventure has him stopping an armored car robbery in Seattle, but not without causing some damage in the process and requesting to be called "Blue Justice", and being told he sucks as a hero. When he returns to Green Hills, Tom takes him out on a boat trip and calls him out for being reckless and irresponsible by showing him a newspaper on how he destroyed an entire city block while stopping the robbery (despite Sonic saying that the block was already messed up). Sonic says that he was a hero for stopping the robbery, but Tom tells him that he put people in danger and that's not what heroes do. In response, Sonic tells Tom to stop trying to be his dad, which hurts Tom emotionally. Sonic says that he can take care of himself, but Tom tells him that being a hero isn't about taking care of himself, it's about taking responsibility for other people. Until then, Sonic has to be patient until his moment comes to be a hero. Afterwards, Tom and Maddie are leaving for Hawaii to attend Rachel's wedding there, and Sonic provides them a ring portal to get there and an extra ring for Tom to use to allow them to return home after, leaving Sonic with Ozzie to watch over the house. However, after Sonic is forced to clean up his mess before Tom sees it when he calls later, Sonic then prepares to watch a movie with Ozzie, only for the power to go out, then the TV and lights start to act strangely. Ozzie senses trouble, and Sonic goes to check the front door, only to be shocked when the doorknob is sliced off, revealing Dr. Robotnik, having returned from his exile on the Mushroom Planet. Sonic tries to attack him upon being provoked by Dr. Robotnik, threatening him and his foster family in Tom, Maddie, and Ozzie, but is met by Knuckles the Echidna, Dr. Robotnik's new ally. Sonic is overpowered by Knuckles, who demands to know the whereabouts of the "ultimate power", mentioning that Longclaw knew about it. Before Knuckles can finish Sonic off, Tails arrives and rams Knuckles with a Green Hills Sheriff's Department Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor he had commandeered, stunning Knuckles long enough for Sonic to get aboard and flee with Tails. As they escape, Tails reveals that Knuckles is hunting Sonic for the whereabouts of the Master Emerald, which Sonic thought was just a fairy tale, but Tails reveals it is real, and Knuckles believes Sonic has knowledge of where to find it due to being Longclaw's protégé. Knuckles soon catches up and starts to tear the cruiser apart, but Tails drives it off a cliff, resulting in the cruiser's destruction, but Tails airlifts Sonic to safety while Knuckles is left clinging to the cliff face in frustration. Retreating to Wade's house for refuge, and not telling him about the demise of his squad car, Sonic discovers a final holographic message from Longclaw in his map he escaped to Earth with, which explains everything to him about the Master Emerald, the war between the echidnas and owls for possession of it, and Longclaw entrusting her duty to safeguard it to Sonic. Now feeling this is what his powers were needed for to be a hero, Sonic and Tails depart to Siberia to find the compass that will lead them to the Master Emerald. Arriving at a Siberian tavern full of unfriendly Russian locals, Sonic and Tails try to blend in, but when Tails' Miles Electric accidentally insults the waitress while translating what Tails said from English to Russian, and Sonic makes it worse when what he says to try and calm the crowd down is mistranslated as well, both of them are exposed and are about to be thrown into the fireplace to be burned alive when Tails quickly calls out the Russian phrase for a dance-off. Stunned and surprised by Tails saying the dance-off phrase, the patrons spare Sonic and Tails for the moment, but the stakes are very high: Win, and Sonic and Tails are allowed to go free. Lose, and it is the fire for them. It only gets worse when their opponent gets a hold of the map and refuses to relinquish it unless they beat him. With some quick thinking, Sonic and Tails are able to not only defeat their opponent and win, getting the map back, but earn the respect of the patrons as well, who allow them to spend the night in the tavern before heading out in the morning to find the compass once the weather improves. The next day, they head to the mountain where the temple housing the compass is. After Sonic notices several symbols like on the map from Longclaw and matches them up identical to the ones on the map, the compass is revealed to him and Tails. However, Knuckles and Dr. Robotnik arrive with an armada of Badnik drones, and Sonic is forced to flee with the compass as he is pursued by Knuckles and the Badniks, soon being cornered on a cliff after losing his Rings, unable to open a portal with them now to escape. Confronting Knuckles, Sonic learns that he is the last of his kind after the rest of them went off to hunt Longclaw, but never came back. Sonic admits to being in the same boat after losing Longclaw, and this gives Knuckles pause, until Tails captures him, and Knuckles becomes enraged, thinking Sonic deceived him. Thinking fast, Sonic throws the compass to Tails, but Dr. Robotnik intercepts it, before knocking Tails out with a missile, which also triggers an avalanche. Sonic has no choice but to try and save Tails and outrun the avalanche as Knuckles and Dr. Robotnik retreat with the compass. Thinking fast, Sonic contacts Tom in Hawaii, who's in the middle of Rachel's wedding being underway, and Sonic's frantic attempts to call Tom disrupt the ceremony, angering Rachel. Once Tom steps away from the wedding to avoid further trouble and learns Sonic is in danger and needs a ring portal now, he's forced to clock Rachel's husband-to-be Randall to get the ring after he got it switched up with one of the wedding rings earlier with Jojo and use it to save Sonic and Tails, causing them to crash the wedding with the avalanche of snow that follows them through the portal. Tom is furious with Sonic afterwards, but Maddie calms him down as she asks Sonic what happened. Sonic barely has a chance to explain things before he is then captured as the wedding guests reveal themselves to be under Commander Walters, the Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, as U.S. federal agents of the Guardian Units of Nations. Sonic, Tails, and Tom are captured and taken into the hotel to await transport, but are later rescued by Maddie and a scorned Rachel. Sonic, feeling responsible for nearly getting Tails killed no thanks to him, heads on alone to stop Knuckles and Dr. Robotnik from getting the Master Emerald, but though he arrives in time to intercept them and protect the Master Emerald, Dr. Robotnik uses the distraction of Sonic and Knuckles fighting to get the Master Emerald first, gaining its power before teleporting away and leaving the collapsing ruins to kill Sonic and Knuckles. Seeing Knuckles trapped under a fallen column, Sonic risks his own life and drowning to free him, and Knuckles returns the favor with saving Sonic from drowning. As they recover, Sonic tells Knuckles the same advice Tom gave him earlier and encourages Knuckles that he can have a better chance in life. As they form a new friendship (along with Knuckles squeezing Sonic's hand, much to his annoyance), the two are then rescued by Tails in the Tornado to return to Green Hills. They arrive just as Dr. Robotnik has finished the construction of the Giant Eggman Robot, using the Master Emerald to create it from any technology Dr. Robotnik could get his hands on, be it a passing diesel locomotive and its freight train, or even G.U.N.'s own armored vehicles. When their own individual attacks are unable to make any progress against Dr. Robotnik, Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles decide to try a group attack, with Sonic serving as decoy while Tails and Knuckles infiltrate the Giant Eggman Robot to disarm Robotnik of the Master Emerald. Though the plan works and Robotnik is separated from the Master Emerald, Sonic is critically injured, but recovers the Master Emerald before being rescued by Tom and Maddie. However, Dr. Robotnik, putting the Giant Eggman Robot on auxiliary power, stops them from escaping and prepares to crush them underfoot after trapping them in a ring of fire. Sonic tries to get the Master Emerald to help him, but it crumbles in his hands, revealing the seven Chaos Emeralds. Sonic pleads for Tom and Maddie to flee while they still have the chance, but they refuse, reminding Sonic that they are a family. As all three prepare to face their doom, the Chaos Emeralds react and are absorbed by Sonic, moments before Dr. Robotnik brings the Giant Eggman Robot's foot down on them.
“ | It's over, Eggman. | „ |
~ Super Sonic |
For a moment, Dr. Robotnik thinks he has won with killing Sonic and the Wachowskis as Tails and Knuckles look on in shock and horror, but then he finds that Sonic had transformed into Super Sonic (due to Sonic's love for Tom and Maddie) and then confronts Dr. Robotnik, slicing off the head of the Giant Eggman Robot to confront him face-to-face with a look of righteous fury on his face to show just how far Dr. Robotnik pushed Sonic to where Sonic dropped all manner of boasting and taunting and was all business now because Dr. Robotnik threatened his adoptive family. Realizing his disadvantage, Dr. Robotnik tries to offer a truce with Super Sonic, but then tries to attack him when he isn't looking. Super Sonic not only blocks the punches without flinching and breaking eye contact with Dr. Robotnik, but destroys the Giant Eggman Robot's arms, much to Dr. Robotnik's terrified shock, before puncturing it several times and then, with a simple tap of his foot, sends it toppling backwards with Dr. Robotnik still in it, demolishing it once and for all, while still giving Dr. Robotnik the most hateful glare Sonic can show for threatening his family.
“ | Oh, it's like that? Okay, we're not friends! LATER, HATER!!! | „ |
~ Dr. Robotnik's last words as he apparently perishes with his robot |
Afterwards, as Tom and Maddie rush to check on Sonic, Knuckles holds them back, fearing Sonic has been corrupted by the Chaos Emeralds, but using his newfound powers, Sonic proves to everyone he's still the same Sonic they know and love as he conjures a Chili Dog for himself and one for Knuckles to prove him wrong when it splatters on Knuckles' face. Afterwards, Sonic releases the Chaos Emeralds and sends them to unknown locations, deciding that he still needs some growing up before he can wield their power again, while Knuckles recovers the Master Emerald and restores it. With the war between the Owls and Echidnas over, Sonic offers Knuckles a chance to join him and Tails to form a new group to protect the Master Emerald with, and Knuckles accepts, sealing the deal with a power-bump, forming Team Sonic. With that, Sonic gains two new allies and friends in Tails and Knuckles, and they all share a game of baseball with each other and the Wachowskis before heading off to get some ice cream, with Sonic momentarily returning to the baseball field to recover the Master Emerald they left behind in the cooler. Unknown to Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, or the Wachowskis, Commander Walters had been told that, during as G.U.N. erased Dr. Robotnik from their databases, they found a black ops research facility dating back 50 years, which Walters realizes to his dread to be none other than Project Shadow.
Knuckles[]
Believing Knuckles was having a difficult time adjusting to life on Earth, Sonic decides to talk to him about it. He tells him how he also had trouble adapting when he first arrived on Earth, but he eventually grew to think of the planet as his new home. Knuckles responds that he does not consider Earth as his home and only stays because of the pact he made with him and Tails, causing Sonic to suggest that Knuckles do something he enjoys when there are no enemies to fight. However this leads to more problems which gets Knuckles grounded, so Sonic tries to cheer him up by showing him activities he can do around their bedroom.

Synopsis[]
Biography[]
Early Life[]
Hunted for His Powers[]
- "I was born with extraordinary powers and was told to keep them secret. And like any kid, I did the exact opposite."
- ―Sonic the Hedgehog[src]
Born in the 2000s, Sonic was raised on an island in his youth, sharing a home with his parental figure, Longclaw. He spent his childhood running across the island using his super-speed abilities, claiming that he could run across it in less than two seconds. In doing this, he also avoided the sights of several groups that wished to capture him for his powers.
Echidna Attack[]
- "This world is on the far side of the universe. You should be safe there.""I don't want to go without you!""You must. These Rings will be your most important possession. If you're ever discovered, use one. Never stop running. Now, go!"
- ―Longclaw and Sonic the Hedgehog[src]
In 2010, while he was partaking in his daily routine, Sonic was spotted by members of the Echidna, unknowingly leading them back to Longclaw's Home. As Sonic greeted Longclaw with a flower, the Echidnas prepared to fire their arrows from behind. Noticing this, Longclaw told Sonic to get down and quickly shut the door behind him. As the arrows flew into the building, Longclaw prepared to escape, grabbing Sonic. With Sonic in her claws, she soared out of the house and was barraged with arrows. An arrow launched by Pachacamac hit Longclaw, sending her and Sonic to the ground.
As the Echidna approached them from the ground, Longclaw gave Sonic a bag of rings, and tells him that to stay safe, he must stay hidden from those who would hunt him. She then threw a ring and told Sonic to travel to Earth, a planet on the farthest side of the universe. Sonic eventually ran through the portal and regrets his decision immediately as he sees the tribe closing in on Longclaw. However, the portal closed and disintegrated as he made contact, with Longclaw having said her final goodbye. Sonic was then left in fear of his new life without parental guidance.
Life on Earth[]
- "So what did you expect? A dirty little hedgehog eating berries and struggling to survive? Think again. Because I am living my best life on Earth!"
- ―Sonic the Hedgehog[src]
Now stranded on Earth, Sonic created a home in a cave underneath the forests of Green Hills, Montana. Here, he spent most of his days playing around with collectibles from the area, including several stolen signs, an inflatable guitar, and several comic books such as The Flash. On one occasion, he decided to visit various tourist attractions and locations around the world, such as Los Angeles, New York City, London, the Louvre, the Taj Mahal, Mount Fuji, the Sydney Opera House and the Outback in the span of 80 seconds before traveling back to his hideout. From above a nearby mountain, he watched over the townspeople while never actually interacting with them, as he had to keep his existence a secret. Some individuals who he particularly liked were Tom Wachowski, the town's sheriff, and Maddie Wachowski, his wife and a student veterinarian. Despite this, he did toy with certain townspeople that he was fond of, including Carl, who he had encountered shortly after he had moved to Green Hills and would become infamous and mocked in the town for touting Sonic's existence as "the blue devil."
In 2020, during an action-less day of highway patrol for Tom Wachowski, Sonic began to test his speed. He ran past the front of Tom's police car at 296 miles per hour, confusing Tom as he inspected whether his radar gun was malfunctioning or not. He ran past the front once again, now at 300 miles per hour. In complete disbelief, Tom exited his car and investigated the scene, where he found one of Sonic's quills lying in a bush. After Tom had left, Sonic looked back, noticing that a turtle was about to be run over by an incoming vehicle. He quickly grabbed it off the road and warned it to be more careful. Sonic then wondered if the turtle was simply tired of being slow for its life. He began to run with it across the highway, though he accidentally dropped it and had to quickly retrieve it out of the air. He then placed it on the forest ground near his cave.
While watching a movie one night through the window of the Wachowski Residence, Sonic realized that the family doesn't know he's real and that he's not supposed to actually interact with the people he had spent his entire life spying on and toying with.
Sometime after the movie night, Sonic would proceed to sneak into Dr. A. Burdett's office and pretended to be a psychiatrist. Sonic would then describe his life on Earth after he was stranded and talks about the citizens of Green Hills. After asking himself a few questions, the reality of his situation finally dawns on him and that he might be feeling lonely because of his isolation.
One night, Carl set up several bear traps and whirligigs in order to catch Sonic. He placed batteries at the center of one of the traps. As Carl rose from his sleep and began to look around at his scene, Sonic quickly pieced together the puzzle Carl had been using to entertain himself, baffling Carl. When Carl then heard the bear traps going off, he quickly ran towards them hoping that he had caught Sonic. When he saw Sonic run past the trap that he had placed the batteries into, he became very angry and disappointed that he had failed at catching him once again. Sonic then lured him toward the whirligigs, which Carl walked over straight into his rope trap. Carl, now hanging upside down from a tree, yelled out that he knew Sonic was real, to which Sonic taunted him by claiming he wasn't. Sonic then drank Carl's soda, much to the owner's dismay.
Tracked by the Army[]
Green Hills Energy Surge[]
- "Okay, okay. Everything is fine. You played some baseball, got a little upset, lightning shot out of your butt, and now they're coming for you!"
- ―Sonic the Hedgehog[src]
Having seen the playoffs between the Green Hills Baseball Team and Spring Valley Baseball Team, Sonic decided to visit the Green Hills Baseball Field that night. Astonished by the headlights that lit the surrounding area, Sonic noticed the baseball equipment, which he used to fabricate his own match. After completing the match, Sonic raised his hand, expecting a fellow team member to grant him a high-five. Alas, Sonic realized he had no one he could be with. Upset at this reminder, Sonic circled the baseball diamond, gaining speed over time. Reaching his limit, Sonic unleashed a ginormous Chaos Energy blast that caused a power outage throughout the entire Pacific Northwest. Sonic hoped no one had seen him and fled the scene.
The next day, Sonic noticed soldiers, who were sent by Dr. Ivo Robotnik, roaming the forests. Realizing he's now in danger, Sonic decided to immediately travel to the rather detested Mushroom Planet. Arriving inside his cave, Sonic gathered all of his essential items and pulled out one of his rings. As he was about to throw it, he notices the soldiers were nearby his cave. Sonic was thus obliged to move out of his cave and bid farewell to his now former residence and decided to run to the Wachowski Residence's garage.
Once inside, Sonic settled his bag and held a ring, ready to throw it. However, the "Donut Lord" Tom Wachowski entered the garage, thinking he was going to face raccoons again. Upon seeing Sonic, Tom screamed and shoots the hedgehog in the leg with his wife's tranquilizer gun. Sonic, now disoriented, read the words "San Francisco" and sees a picture of the Transamerica Pyramid on Tom's shirt and accidentally loses his grip on his ring, which became a portal to the roof of the Transamerica Pyramid. As Sonic collapses, he accidentally drops his bag of rings on the Transamerica Pyramid. Once the portal closed, Tom was utterly bewildered at what he just saw and proceeds to lock the unconscious hedgehog inside his dog's cage and brings him inside his house.
Invasion of the Wachowski Residence[]
- "They're coming for me!""Who's coming for you? What does that got to do with me?""I don't have time to explain, but you have to help me!""No, I don't! Why?""Well, my legs, which normally would be classified as lethal weapons, feel like spaghetti. I need your help. Please. It's life or death."
- ―Sonic the Hedgehog and Tom Wachowski[src]
A few minutes later, Sonic jolted awake inside the Wachowski household, his senses immediately alert to the impending danger. He convinced Tom to aid him in staying hidden from his relentless pursuer, Robotnik, whom just arrived at the front door. Tom, determined to protect his newfound friend, attempted to mislead Robotnik while Sonic sheltered in the attic. However, Robotnik, ever cunning, deployed his fleet of airborne robot drones to scan the property meticulously. Faced with the threat of detection, Sonic was left with no choice but to leap downstairs, hitting the table and thus prompting Robotnik's rude entrance.
Sonic, realizing that Tom's life was in jeopardy as Robotnik started demanding where he was, emerged from hiding under the table and revealed himself to Robotnik, diverting the doctor's attention and allowing Tom to seize the opportunity to strike Robotnik, rendering him unconscious. With Robotnik momentarily incapacitated, Sonic sprang into action, intercepting a rogue robot drone that had targeted them. With lightning-fast reflexes, he hopped onto the drone, helping Tom destroy it with a heavy bowl as he got progressively dizzier. Tom dragged a dizzy Sonic to his truck, swiftly driving away.
Road Trip to San Francisco[]
- "Road trip! Whoop-whoop!""What am I doing?"
- ―Sonic the Hedgehog and Tom Wachowski[src]
Having narrowly escaped their pursuers in Green Hills, Sonic and Tom found themselves on the open road, the wind rushing past them as they drove to safety. Nonetheless, Tom pulls over, bidding farewell to Sonic, left with no clue where he needed to go to retrieve his bag of rings. In a desperate attempt, Sonic tried to reach San Francisco on his own, utilizing his incredible super-speed. He zipped back realizing the impossibility of his quest, thus convincing Tom to assist him further, urging him to drive him there. Sonic yielded "road trip" in joy once let back inside the truck.
During their continued journey, Sonic, other than adhering to Tom's proposed ground rules and establishing his name, explained that Carl was always right about the existence of the "Blue Devil." He also made a quick visit to a tourist attraction.
Brawl at Piston Pit[]
- "Nice going!""Thanks! It's awesome, right? All right, who's next? Who wants some? Who do I get to beat up? Hey! Has anybody seen my waitress? Still waiting on those buffalo wings."
- ―Tom Wachowski and Sonic the Hedgehog[src]
The duo later made a stop at a local bar. It was there, amidst the clinking glasses and lively chatter, that Sonic, with his boundless enthusiasm, decided to create a bucket list of all the Earthly experiences he desired before his departure to the Mushroom Planet. With Tom's guidance and companionship, Sonic embarked on his list, ticking off items one by one. However, their night took an unexpected turn when a bar fight erupted around them. Despite the chaos, Sonic's lightning-fast reflexes and clever thinking allowed him to swiftly turn the situation to his advantage, diffusing the brawl within moments. After the excitement of the night, they decided to rest at a nearby inn, finding solace before setting out once again the following day.
Highway Ambush[]
- "Is that all you've got?!""No, but thank you for asking."
- ―Sonic the Hedgehog and Ivo Robotnik[src]
The following day, while continuing their travels towards San Francisco, Robotnik honed in on Sonic and Tom's location and sent a remote-controlled truck to stop them. The truck launched a harpoon into Tom's car, flinging Sonic onto the car's hood. Tom gained the idea of hitting the brakes, launching Sonic toward the truck as he built up energy while panicking. Sonic transformed into a ball and bowled the truck over on its side.
Unfortunately, another vehicle soon emerged from the truck's wreckage to continue the chase. This vehicle fired EMP discs to slow the heroes down, but Sonic used them to get on top of their pursuer and used one to disable it. The remote-controlled vehicle separated again only to be spun out by Tom, causing a frustrated Robotnik to deploy a miniature drone to eliminate them. The drone cut the roof off Tom's car with a laser before Sonic managed to grab it. But the drone got stuck on his hand and triggered a self-destruct mechanism, leaving him with little time to dispose of it. Sonic succeeded in getting rid of the explosive device just in time but was rendered unconscious when he was blown away by the blast.
Arriving in San Francisco[]
- "Where am I? What year is it? Is The Rock president?"
- ―Sonic the Hedgehog to Tom Wachowski and Maddie Wachowski[src]
Tom quickly carried the injured Sonic into his car and drove him to Rachel's house, where Maddie had been staying. Rachel and Maddie were very angry that Tom was being hunted down by the government, and to make things worse, Maddie had no idea how to treat Sonic's wounds, due to him being an alien. Tom had the idea of using smelling salts to help regain Sonic's consciousness, which worked. Perplexed by Sonic's energetic awakening, Maddie requested Tom to talk in private. Meanwhile, Rachel's daughter Jojo granted Sonic new shoes after noticing how torn up his current shoes were. After meeting the family dog Ozzie, Sonic and the Wachowskis left to visit the Transamerica Pyramid to retrieve Sonic's lost rings back, using Rachel's car to get there.
Robotnik's Ambush[]
- "All right, Eggman. You wanna get fast? Let's get fast!"
- ―Sonic the Hedgehog to Ivo Robotnik[src]
Upon arrival, Sonic quickly traveled up the building, only to bring back information that a key was needed to get to the roof, leading to Tom's plan to infiltrate the building. With Sonic in a bag, Tom and Maddie were allowed to enter an elevator to the roof due to Tom's official badge. Inside, two workers were appalled by the noises coming from said bag. Sonic gasped for air on the roof with the others, speeding towards his rings. Sonic said his supposed last goodbye to the Wachowskis and threw out his ring, although Robotnik, whom he began to nickname "Eggman", appeared at the last minute. As he weaponized his drones, Sonic pushed the Wachowskis off the building, unlocking his slow-motion senses once again. As he played with the incoming missiles and bullets, Sonic was blasted away by Robotnik's attack. He woke up to see the two Wachowskis falling to their demise, saved by Sonic's effort to transport them to Zimmer's farm via a ring portal. He plummeted upon the floor, and so did his rings and the Flying Eggs. He got up and challenged Robotnik to a race around the world.
Skirmish at Green Hills[]
- "Guess what, Eggman?! I'm not leaving Earth! You are!"
- ―Sonic the Hedgehog to Ivo Robotnik[src]
After having traveled through countries such as France, China, and Egypt, bringing destruction to these three countries, Sonic was blasted back into the town of Green Hills. While the townspeople looked distraught upon seeing the hurt alien and the mischievous Robotnik, Tom and Maddie returned to see what had happened, along with Farmer Zimmer. Although Robotnik planned to examine him in a laboratory, Tom stopped his plan and fought him, although he fell from the Egg-Pod. Wade Whipple and Crazy Carl also came by to defend Sonic and Tom.
Robotnik could still not understand what was so important about Sonic, Tom explaining that Sonic was his friend, which suddenly awakened Sonic, now embedded with an abundance of chaos energy. He retrieved the power of his stolen quill which overpowered the ship. As he vowed to use his power to protect his loved ones, Sonic charged upon Robotnik's missiles, evading all of them with his super speed. He jumped from every nearby building onto Robotnik's ship continuously, breaking it down. With the help of Tom, Sonic dashed upon the ship for one final blow, trapping Robotnik on the Mushroom Planet. Afterwards, he earned the trust of Tom Wachowski and was allowed to stay at their residence, unbeknownst to Sonic yet.
Becoming a Wachowski Family Member[]
- "Hey, buddy, where you going?""You said I have to go back to my cave.""We did."
- ―Sonic the Hedgehog and Tom Wachowski[src]
As Tom and Maddie were revamping their home after a drone attack, Walters gifted the Wachowskis an Olive Garden gift card as a thanks for stopping Ivo Robotnik. He then requested to meet Sonic, but Tom and Maddie stated that he had left Earth. The aforementioned hedgehog, Sonic, popped out from behind a couch, asking to watch a film. Tom and Maddie disallowed it, telling him it was a "school night" and that he needed to return to his cave, even though it was 3:00 in the afternoon, accordingly. Sonic, finding them uncool, walked to the front door, halted by Tom, who sent him to his new cave; the attic of the Wachowski Residence. Sonic was now full of glee as he saw all of his stuff now transported into the residence and heartfully thanked the Wachowskis for his new home before being unwillingly licked by Ozzie.
Shortly afterwards, Sonic found a travel diary and started writing about the time he traveled around the world in the span of 80 seconds, recalling the adventures he's had. He mentioned what places he'd like to visit next, his excitement evident in his words.
Public Vigilante "Blue Justice"[]
Another Day in Green Hills[]
- "I just thought coming out of hiding would be more exciting than this. I take down one megalomaniacal scientist and then it's back to a life of boredom."
- ―Sonic the Hedgehog to Sergeant Sprinkles[src]
Sometime after writing in his travel diary, Sonic promised Maddie he would avoid the temptation of going on escapades while she visited the veterinarian clinic, whilst Tom and Wade enjoyed their vacation. He however failed to keep his promise and sneaked out to Green Hills, where he created snowmen and talked to Sergeant Sprinkles about his plans of becoming a well-renowned superhero, having already experimented with various aliases for his public identity.
Robbery of the First Bank of Walla Walla[]
- "And you'll do the time for that one, girl boss! As will all evildoers who dares cross quills with... Blue Justice!"
- ―Sonic the Hedgehog to Lindsey[src]
Returning home, Sonic learned about the mischievous acts taking place in Walla Walla, Washington, and rushed to the location with excitement. Arriving at the First Bank of Walla Walla, where a robbery was in progress, he met supposed hostage Lindsey, who told him the robber was located in the vault. Although prepared for the leader's attack, Sonic found himself tased by Lindsey, who was actually the legitimate leader.
Jason called the Flying Eggs via Doctor Eggman's Control Glove, and they ripped out the entire vault with Sonic inside. Sonic ran inside it, causing it to spin out of control and eventually crash. He broke out of the chamber and revealed himself to Lindsey's crew. Being held at gunpoint, Sonic took down the criminals nonetheless, saved Lindsey from falling to her death due to the Badniks disobeying her, and guided both hostages and robbers outside. Not being seen by anyone else afterwards, he rushed home with some donuts in his hands he had sneakily taken from a police officer's box, which was an offer of thanks to Tom and Wade, who were all at the scene.
Heroic Deeds in Seattle[]
- "No need to thank me, citizens! All in a nights work for... 'Blue Justice!'""You're a terrible hero!"
- ―Sonic the Hedgehog and Armored Truck Security Guard[src]
A few months later, in Seattle, Sonic witnessed a progressing chase between robbers and the Seattle Police Department. In an attempt to prove his heroism, Sonic sped after the criminals, eventually taking over the truck they escaped in. After fending off the bad guys, Sonic tried to stabilize the truck that held a worrisome captive, deploying bombs from the vehicle and realizing that he couldn't stop the car. He decided to dismantle it, eventually bringing the car to a halt. He later left the scene, thinking the city praised his heroic deeds.
Return Back Home[]
- "Trust me when I tell you there will come a time where your powers will be needed. But you don't choose that moment. That moment chooses you."
- ―Tom Wachowski to Sonic the Hedgehog[src]
Following his heroic acts, Sonic rushed back to Green Hills, greeting Wade at the speed trap and the citizens of Green Hills from afar. He sneaked into the Wachowski Residence, wanting to take a nap after remembering Longclaw, but was woken up by Ozzie. As Maddie entered the attic, she reassured Sonic of his meeting with Tom by the lake.
At the lake, Tom informed Sonic of knowing about his actions and told him he needed to adapt responsibility first before becoming a hero, stating that the moment when Sonic's powers would be needed would come at some point. After revealing to Tom that he received goosebumps from his "Wachowski family special" speech, Sonic returned the boat to shore via his super speed.
Rachel's Wedding[]
- "Okay. It's 48 hours until they come back. We've got TV channels, streaming channels, a house full of food and no supervision. Let's do this."
- ―Sonic the Hedgehog to Ozzie[src]
At the Wachowski Residence, Sonic prepared an airport-inspired area, scanning the departing Tom Wachowski and Maddie Wachowski with a metal spatula. Shortly after, he transported the two to Hawaii using a ring where Rachel's wedding was set to transpire. Sonic planned unsupervised pleasantry for 48 hours with Ozzie by his side, creating a mess throughout the house and cleaning it up as Tom called him to inform him the wedding would soon start.
Encountering Eggman and Knuckles[]
- "Look, Robotnik, I don't care who you brought to help you. You're never going to get my power.""Do I look like I need your power?"
- ―Sonic the Hedgehog and Knuckles the Echidna[src]
Sonic and Ozzie remained in the Wachowski Residence when a blackout occurred, with Sonic attempting to tell scary stories to a slightly frightened Ozzie. When he left, Robotnik, otherwise known as Doctor Eggman, emerged from a ring portal next to the residence. Sonic wandered to the front door, slowly opening it as Eggman revealed himself to Sonic, telling him his plans of revenge. Angered, Sonic prepared for an attack, which was reflected by an enemy unknown named Knuckles the Echidna. Blown back into the room he was in earlier, Sonic assumed Knuckles and Eggman were trying to steal his powers, but after Knuckles confirmed he had higher levels of might, he punched Sonic outside into the yard. Sonic attempted a spin attack, which was halted by Knuckles again.
Slammed into a tree, Knuckles demanded the location of an important object, claiming Sonic was Longclaw's apprentice. Sonic was stunned, unaware of Knuckles' intentions, and was saved by Tails, someone who had been searching for him. Tails drove him to safety after being chased by Knuckles.
War for the Master Emerald[]
Hiding in the "Wade Cave"[]
- "I won't let you down, Longclaw."
- ―Sonic the Hedgehog[src]
Tails flew Sonic over to Wade Whipple's garage, the "Wade Cave," where they sought shelter from the forces of Doctor Eggman and Knuckles the Echidna. Determined to find connections between Knuckles' search for the Master Emerald and Longclaw, Sonic suddenly realized there was a link. He opened his Safe Worlds Map, which unlocked a prerecorded holographic message from Longclaw. In the message, she revealed the history and whereabouts of the Master Emerald, along with her plan to pass the responsibility of safeguarding the emerald to Sonic. He also discovered that, on the map, directions to a compass regarding the Master Emerald pointed to Siberia. Sonic invited Tails to come with him, and although nervous at first, Tails turned confident and agreed to join him on his quest as Sonic promised to protect him.
Visiting Siberia[]
- "Table for two, please!"
- ―Sonic the Hedgehog to Tatiana[src]
In Siberia, Sonic and Tails were stuck in a snowstorm, luckily finding a nearby restaurant. Upon entering, Sonic and Tails found themselves in a tough and seemingly frightening establishment. Ordering beef stew, Sonic questioned the origin of Tails' multitude of gadgets. Tails answered that he made them and even used them to view Sonic on Earth, having received chaos energy ratings transmitting from the aforementioned planet. He had spectated upon the Green Hills Energy Surge and Skirmish at Green Hills, amazed at how Sonic managed to defeat Ivo Robotnik, as he told. Tails also came to know that Sonic enjoyed bubble baths. After Tails stated he was determined to warn Sonic about the incoming threat Knuckles the Echidna, Sonic received a message from Tom Wachowski, who asked how he was. Sonic responded he was watching TV while Eggman, Knuckles, and the re-recruited agent Stone watched their progressing conversation. They had tracked the duo to Siberia.
Tails had received the wrong dish he ordered. He requested a new dish, but Tails' Miles Electric translator translated his words incorrectly, creating a sentence that offended the waitress. The patrons undressed the oddly behaving duo, revealing them to be extraterrestrials, much to everyone's surprise. Sonic and Tails were thus facing death by fire, but fortunately, Tails mentioned a Siberian custom word: "Pivonka," unknowingly invoking a dance battle between the two and someone experienced. Because traditional Siberian music was nearly impossible to dance to, having lost the Safe Worlds Map meanwhile, Sonic started a different and more suitable song with a radio cassette. Winning the contest, Sonic snatched the map back, receiving praise from all patrons alongside Tails.
Later that day, Tails remained excited about winning the dance battle, to which Sonic replied he knew a lot about Earth, mentioning the word "pal" directed to Tails in his reply. Tails hugged Sonic, telling him he had been all on his own due to his fellow villagers not being too fond of Tails' twin tails, which made Tails feel insecure and lonely, emotions Sonic could relate to. Tails revealed he looked up to Sonic because he was as weird as Tails, despite being an incredibly quick legend, making Tails rid his estranged feelings. Both feeling sleepy, Tails laid down upon the floor, with Sonic covering him with a blanket and sleeping beside him.
Escape from Eggman and Knuckles[]
- "Life or death situation this very second! I need you to use the ring I gave you to save me, like, right now!"
- ―Sonic the Hedgehog to Tom Wachowski[src]
Waking up beside a bar patron, Sonic and Tails traveled to the location of the Master Emerald Compass, where the story of the War for the Master Emerald was engraved in the mountain's walls. Surpassing these engravings, Sonic turned over symbols to match those set in the map, unveiling the compass. But alas, the two were surrounded by several Badniks and Doctor Eggman, who was mocked for his new appearance, and Knuckles. With Eggman firing a missile, Sonic threw it at Knuckles, who stood in front of a giant Owl statue and evaded it, making it collapse. As the mountain fell apart, Sonic and Tails ran up the statue, with Sonic tearing a Badnik's wing to use it as a snowboard. Sonic told Tails to remain in the air as Sonic snowboarded downhill, unfortunately being chased by multiple Badniks. Sonic thwarted most of them, now being pursued by Knuckles.
Despite his multiple quips and dodges, Sonic came to hang off a cliff, losing his rings. With Knuckles approaching Sonic, Knuckles stated Sonic knew nothing about him, despite his wise-cracking jokes, and Sonic replied that he did know that Echidnas like Knuckles had ruined his life. The two then began to remember their past losses and how it had affected their lives before Tails captured Knuckles. As Knuckles now thought Sonic was a deceiver, Sonic granted Tails the compass, but was stolen mid-air by Eggman. Eggman also launched missiles that exploded near Tails, rendering him unconscious. Sonic begged for Tails to awaken while an avalanche neared him. With Tails in his arms, Sonic tried to snowboard away from his seeming doom and called Tom Wachowski, terrified. He ordered Tom to throw a ring, which Tom did with a wedding ring. He had to punch Randall Handel in order to transport Sonic to Hawaii.
Crashing Rachel's Wedding[]
- "You see that little fox over there? He came all the way across the universe to meet his hero. And what did his hero do? I practically got him killed. You know what? You were right. My moment came and I blew it. I'm no hero.""Wait.""No. I'm not letting anyone else get hurt because of me. I'm gonna fix this while I still can."
- ―Sonic the Hedgehog and Tom Wachowski[src]
After Tom opened a ring portal during Rachel's wedding, everyone looked upon snow nearing them, which eventually emerged out of the ring, along with Sonic and Tails. Sonic explained the current happenings to Tom and Maddie, abruptly being captured by an anti-alien force; the Guardian Units of Nations. Tom tried to free Sonic and his blacked-out friend, but was halted by agent Handel, Rachel's supposed fiancé. G.U.N. took Sonic and Tails away, including Tom, as Maddie and Rachel equipped Tails' gadgets. Meanwhile, Sonic requested treatment for Tails, but did not receive answers. Luckily, Maddie was able to rescue Sonic, Tails, and Tom with Tails' inventions.
Outside, Sonic and the rest witnessed a green energy beam from afar, signaling Doctor Eggman and Knuckles' arrival at the Master Emerald Shrine. Sonic saw this as "his moment" to adapt responsibility, apologizing to Tom for not listening to him sooner and feeling guilty because Tails almost died because of his previous actions. As he left, Tails awakened, now knowing that Sonic was off to fight Knuckles and confirmed to the Wachowskis that he did not know what he was up against.
Duel at the Master Emerald Shrine[]
- "Is everything a joke to you? Why must you constantly interfere with my destiny?""Because my destiny is to protect my friends and family.""I think I just threw up in my mouth.""And if you want that emerald, you're gonna have to go. Through. Me!"
- ―Knuckles the Echidna, Sonic the Hedgehog and Doctor Eggman[src]
By the shoreline, Sonic readied his speed, which he unleashed upon the ocean in order to travel to the beach afar. Challenged by the raging tides, Sonic arrived unconscious on the other beach's shore, awakening upon the view of the Master Emerald Shrine. While Doctor Eggman and Knuckles approached the Master Emerald, Sonic roughly arrived in front of a maze he ran through.
When Eggman and his ally arrived at their destination, Sonic stormed through the roof. Questioned about why Sonic kept interfering with Knuckles' destiny, he replied that it was his destiny to protect his loved ones and the Master Emerald at all costs. A battle engaged while Eggman sneaked up on the emerald the two were rivaling over. As Knuckles lifted a rock above the doomed Sonic, Sonic took note of Eggman's scheme, convincing Knuckles to look behind him. Dubbing Knuckles naïve, Eggman laid his hands upon the mystic relic and infused with its grandiose power, teleporting back to the Mean Bean Coffee Café and destroying the entire labyrinth as he did it. As debris tumbled throughout the area, a piece of a pillar struck Knuckles down, leaving Sonic to save him. Upon doing so, Knuckles just left Sonic to drown in the erupting waters until he changed his mind, rescuing him as well.
Making Amends with Knuckles[]
- "On the mountain you told me you've lost everything, the way I did. But you seem so hopeful and free. How did you move forward despite failing again, and again, and again, and again, and again?""Okay, I didn't fail that much, but I didn't do this all alone. I found a new family, new friends, and you can too. You don't have to be alone anymore."
- ―Knuckles the Echidna and Sonic the Hedgehog[src]
Sonic, surprised that Knuckles spared his life, questioned why he had done that. Knuckles explained he thought it was a tactic unbeknownst to him, but Sonic confirmed that was not the case. He explained it was an attempt at heroism, taking responsibility for others, as taught to him by Tom Wachowski.
He heard a strange noise, which was Tails arriving towards the beach with the Tornado biplane from Rachel's wedding. Excitedly relieved, Sonic requested Knuckles to come along, but Knuckles was still confused as to why Sonic was continuously hopeful and free. Sonic elaborated that he had found new friends and family, despite his previous losses, and told Knuckles that he did not have to remain alone anymore, extending a hand towards him. When Knuckles performed a handshake, the utter strength emitting from Knuckles' pulse extremely pained Sonic's hand.
A New Order[]
Battle Against the Giant Eggman Robot[]
- "It's over, Eggman."
- ―Sonic the Hedgehog to Doctor Eggman[src]
Via a ring portal, Sonic, Tails, and his reformed ally Knuckles, traveled upon the Tornado above the forests of Green Hills and watched a massive cloud with green electricity. Sonic added that Eggman, a man frequently up to no good, creating something with the Master Emerald's ability of manifesting thoughts into reality could be quite dangerous. Tails, still skeptical of Knuckles, asked Sonic if it was a good idea to bring him along. Sonic said that Knuckles was "mixed up," encouraging Knuckles to refute this by claiming that he was complex in his own way. As the Giant Eggman Robot marched towards the town, Sonic tried to come up with a plan. As Sonic started to tell Knuckles to use his strength, Knuckles jumped off the plane. Out of ideas, Sonic decided to improvise by lightly taunting Eggman. Shortly after the Wachowskis saw the Tornado fly by, Eggman launched missiles at the plane, which Tails successfully dodged all of them. Suddenly, Sonic was struck by one, sending him flying in the opposite direction. Knuckles finally reached Green Hills and yelled at Eggman, calling him a deceiver. Sonic directed the missile towards the Robot's knee, which stumbled the robot temporarily.
The three came together, all stating how their attacks had failed. Sonic, however, told everyone they should work together as a team. Now battling supercharged Badniks deployed by Eggman, Tails suggested looking for Eggman's weak spot, with Knuckles advising to hit the groin. Sonic soon realized that he was the "groin," knowing that Eggman was always thinking about him all the time, and came up with the idea of distracting him while Tails and Knuckles climbed to the top of the robot. Sonic executed his plan and led Eggman into the forest. After a little while, Sonic asked Eggman what his goals were. Eggman told him that he planned to enslave humanity, and eventually the rest of the universe. He added that Sonic would not be present when that happened. He then fired lasers upon Sonic, which he evaded. Sonic became tired, running upon a bridge that was destroyed by Eggman's laser.
Lying severely injured below the Giant Eggman Robot, Tails and Knuckles managed to extract the Master Emerald from Eggman, with it falling down nearby Sonic. Sonic awakened and noticed the gem, attempting to reach it as Eggman restarted the previously broken-down machine. He managed to get it, being picked up by Tom and Maddie in a truck. Eventually halted due to the robot's punch, Sonic, Tom, and Maddie lay in front of the broken truck, witnessing the emerald break apart. Seemingly set to face death, Eggman stomped upon the three, much to Tails' and Knuckles' dismays. Eggman's victory was shortly lived, because the shining light that was Super Sonic tilted the foot of the machine, tearing through it to face Eggman. Eggman, trying to distract Sonic, punched him with full force, although Sonic simply withheld the attack. First destroying both fists of the robot, he obliterated every part of it, eventually tilting it, resulting in Eggman's demise.
As Sonic settled upon the ground, Knuckles disallowed the Wachowskis not to touch him, telling them Sonic had adapted a new personality. He was proven wrong as Sonic created a chili dog for him and Knuckles. Sonic then unleashed the Chaos Emeralds, relieved to return to his normal state. Tails questioned why Sonic had rejected the possibility of reigning over the entire galaxy, with Sonic answering that he had to grow up further, also liking the fact he was a kid. Following a hug, Knuckles reformed the Master Emerald, asking what they should do with the emerald. Because every previous order of warriors had passed away, Sonic thought he, Tails, and Knuckles should be the current protectors of the emerald, with Tails sealing this idea and promise with a power bump, including Sonic and Knuckles.
Playing Baseball[]
- "I am happy for you, pal. You've got your wingmen. Perfect friends to grow up with.""I've got a lot more than that, dad."
- ―Tom Wachowski and Sonic the Hedgehog[src]
Following the battle in Green Hills, Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles played a game of baseball at the Green Hills Baseball Field with Tom and Maddie Wachowski, with Sonic serving as both announcer and catcher. After Knuckles used his powerful fist to strike the baseball, Maddie treated the three to ice cream. Knuckles questioned if grapes were included, but Sonic told him that it usually wasn't present. As Tails and Knuckles entered the back of Tom's vehicle, Tom expressed how proud he was of Sonic for finding new friends. Sonic replied he had more than that and called Tom his dad. They both raced to the car to meet up with everyone else and drive away from the field. Sonic ran back to bring the Master Emerald and the cooler before running back.
Investigating the Green Hills Junkyard[]
- "Shh! We're on an investigation. Wade told me there had been some weird noises up here at night."
- ―Sonic the Hedgehog to Tails and Knuckles the Echidna[src]
After noting Wade Whipple's complaint about strange noises coming from the Green Hills Junkyard, he took Tails and Knuckles to investigate it instead of returning books to the library. At the junkyard, Team Sonic came across Unit, a robot searching for parts to upgrade itself. Although he tried to make a plan, Knuckles charged at the Badnik, getting himself stuck in the Green Hills welcome sign. Meanwhile, Sonic grabbed his companion's hand and raced through the scrapyard, eventually bouncing off the enemy multiple times. As he ripped out a piece of Unit, that very piece sprayed a cloud of pinkish smoke into Sonic's eyes. After Unit reflected Tails' bolas, Sonic's legs got tied up. Luckily, Tails was able to fly Sonic upwards before he could've been crushed, but both Sonic and Tails then plummeted to the ground due to Unit's maneuver.
As Unit approached Sonic, mentioning that it thought for itself, Sonic said he did not, stating that it sounded like his creator Doctor Eggman. He asked what Unit, a sentient and conscious being, liked, receiving the reply that he liked poetry. Sonic was glad to hear some poems from him, listening until sunset with Tails. However, Knuckles then appeared, repeatedly punching Unit. Slightly furious, Sonic told him not everything required punching as Tails uncovered Unit from the rubble of his own used items. Tails asked Sonic if he could keep Unit, to which Sonic agreed, but only if Tails took care of it the most. Sonic then flew away using Tails' flight alongside Unit as Knuckles argued that he demanded justice for the destroyed books.
Helping Knuckles[]
- "Knuckles, Tails, and I became friends and roommates! Now, with all the hero stuff out of the way, Knuckles' only mission is to relax and enjoy Earth, which might be harder than it sounds."
- ―Sonic the Hedgehog[src]
A few months later, after Knuckles mistook construction workers as attackers, much to Maddie Wachowski's annoyance, Sonic volunteered to lecture Knuckles and help him come to terms with his new home. He tried to get Knuckles to see the beauty in Green Hills but Knuckles repeatedly refused to see it. Mildly agitated, Sonic then reminded Knuckles that they had defeated Eggman and there was no longer a reason to go on any quest or to keep being an Echidna "warrior" and suggested to make himself at home instead. He left him to meditate on his words as he took off to do something more fun.
Knuckles took Sonic's words to heart, and by dawn the following morning, he made himself a throne at the dining table and turned the living room into a gladiator pit, to Sonic, Tails, and Wachowski's surprise. This further angered Wachowski, who proceeded to ground Knuckles. Knuckles, not knowing how grounding works, tried to argue back with her until Sonic advised him not to, knowing it would make Wachowski more angry. Knuckles reluctantly accepted his grounding with "great honor," and headed upstairs to the attic. Later, Sonic showed Knuckles the fun things he can do while grounded, such as reading comic books, listening to music, playing video games, and imitating viral dance videos, once again trying to convince him of relaxing, before heading back downstairs.
Powers And Abilities[]
- Superhuman Speed: Sonic's main power is his immense superhuman speed as Tails has stated that he is the fastest creature in the galaxy. When Sonic runs, he creates a blue energy trail. He is said to be able to move at supersonic speeds and during his fight with Dr. Robotnik in Egypt, Sonic can even generate sand tornadoes by running around in circles to disrupt Dr. Robotnik's visual contact. He can move so fast that it looks like time has stopped from his perspective as is shown when Sonic took out the thugs including the punk leader during a bar fight and destroying Dr. Robotnik's drones in Transamerica Pyramid, for everyone else, he is like a blue blur,or even travel long distances without any difficulty, like when he ran from a place in Montana to the Pacific Ocean (which is hundreds of kilometers of distance in just a few seconds). As a side-effect of this ability, Sonic also has a super-fast pulse rate, even while unconscious. Sonic is also fast enough to run above water and even leap in-between colossal waves and briefly regain his momentum, until the waves overexerts him to the point of unconsciousness and risk of drowning.
- Accelerated Thought Process: Sonic is even capable of thinking and processing information at super speed, being capable of reading through a meter-high stack of The Flash comics in about a second.
- Accelerated Perception: Sonic thanks to his speed has a reaction time that is fast enough to counter an incoming attack moving at near lightspeed and make everything in his environment like time stopping.
- Superhuman Reflexes: His reflexes are noticeably better than the average human, allowing him to react to attacks incredibly quickly and accurately. Sonic's shown quick enough to dodge most of Knuckles' rapid punches until he gets caught off guard.
- Hypermetabolism: Sonic thanks to his speed, have a fast metabolism. When he was knocked out by one of Tom's tranquilizers, he manages to recover himself from the tranq's effects in minutes.
- Accelerated Thought Process: Sonic is even capable of thinking and processing information at super speed, being capable of reading through a meter-high stack of The Flash comics in about a second.
- Ball Form/Spin Attack: Sonic's signature move this is done by rolling and turning himself into a ball, he attacks with his spikes at full speed this allows him to break through objects and he can combine this with his chaos energy. It has enough force to destroy one of Dr. Robotnik's mobile vehicles. In his third fight with Knuckles, his spin dash is powerful enough to plow repeatedly through thick layers of stone.
- Chaos Energy Empowerment: Sonic is able to naturally emit Chaos Energy from his body to give himself the power of super-speed. He is also capable of harnessing power from the seven Chaos Emeralds to become Super Sonic. This power seems to be linked to his emotional state. If he feels extreme emotions, Sonic will start generating blue energy that causes his quills and eyes to glow blue and his body to unleash surges of energy akin to lightning bolts. Conversely, should Sonic harness this energiy for himself, this energy seem to amplify his speed, strength and spin attack, providing the latter with enough power to hit the Eggpod hard enough to send it flying in the opposite direction, break down a bank vault's sealed door, and clash with the similarly charged Knuckles. Even if Sonic's quills are separated from him, they will retain some of the energy he creates and react to Sonic's emotional state from a distance; the energy output from these quills is astronomical, with even one of them possessing unlimited power.
- Bio-Electrokinesis: Sonic can emit blue colored electricity from his body when using his speed or when he gets very emotional. He can use this to powered up his attacks to become more powerful like with his spin attack.
- EMP Blast: By running in a circle at top speed, Sonic can generate an EMP blast. He generated enough EMP to disable the entire Pacific Northwest, and considering each of his quills is said to store unlimited energy, he could potentially be powerful enough to literally shake the universe (also in the second movie, explains that when Sonic did that EMP, the energy generated was feel even in the planet of Tails, which is somewhere in the universe).
- Energy Absorption: Sonic can drain his own Chaos Energy from his separated quills by literally pulling the energy out of them, although they will eventually regain their power. He can also absorb energy from lightning Sonic used this in his final fight with Dr. Robotnik and his flying vehicle in Green Hills in order to restore his strength.
- Fulgurkinesis: Sonic is also shown the ability to summon lightning from the sky. He used this in his final battle against Eggman in Green Hills in the first movie in order to absorb its energy and restore his strength.
- Bio-Electrokinesis: Sonic can emit blue colored electricity from his body when using his speed or when he gets very emotional. He can use this to powered up his attacks to become more powerful like with his spin attack.
- Superhuman Strength and Durability: Sonic is able to dent objects made of metal or stone without sustaining any damage on his body, but an explosion is enough to knock him unconscious. He is also able to cause significant damage to Knuckles in battle, as well as repeatedly take heavy blows from the former and keep on fighting with little struggle.
Super Sonic[]
- Nigh-Omnipotence: Due to being infused with the Seven Chaos Emeralds' power Super Sonic possesses immeasurable god-like power which makes him the most powerful being in the universe. He has shown to be invulnerable to injury, easily capable of super-strength, able to turn his thoughts into reality, and can possibly perform various other incredible feats on a whim.
- Mentifery: Super Sonic can bring anything he wants into existence by thought alone. He uses this ability to create some Chili Dogs after Dr. Robotnik's defeat.
- Flight: Super Sonic can fly at incredibly high speeds. He was able to cut off the head of Dr. Robotnik's Giant Eggman Robot using his flight speed alone.
- Immense Superhuman Strength: Super Sonic possesses an incredible amount of strength. He was able to hold and lift the foot of Dr. Robotnik's Giant Eggman Robot without any problem and when Dr. Robotnik tries to punch Sonic with the Giant robot's fist Sonic was able to stop it with ease like it was no problem at all.
- Immense Superhuman Durability: Sonic as Super Sonic also possess incredible durability, able to catch a punch from the Giant Eggman Robot's colossal fist without hurting himself.
- Immence Superhuman Speed: Sonic's speed has also increased in his Super Sonic mode his speed was great enough to let him circle the Giant Eggman Robot multiple times in a matter of seconds and slice its head off with sheer speed
- Survival Skills: Sonic has good survival skills he was able to live alone in the wild on Earth for ten years without problem he was also able to enjoy it from time to time, but he always wanted friends and family.
- Dancer: Sonic is a skilled dancer, whether he is dancing by himself or with a partner.
- Leadership: He is also a capable leader he inspires others and come up with good battle strategies.
- Combatant: Even he has no formal training Sonic possess some skills in Hand-to-hand combat he was able to keep up and adapt to even Knuckles who is known as the most dangerous warrior in the galaxy in combat. However, Sonic's fighting prowess is rather unrefined and crude, as he has undergone no forms of combat training for his entire life. Knuckles has even deemed him unskilled and untrained in the field of combat, but regardless, in close combat, Sonic is extremely self-taught, and highly adept in combat skills during his battle against Dr. Robotnik in his Giant Eggman Robot when he's shown to take out the drones.
- Snowboarding: Sonic has shown to get the hang of snowboarding rather quickly when pursued by Knuckles and Dr. Robotnik.
Equipment[]
- Portal Rings: Sonic possessed a bag of golden rings that allowed him to open portals to any location he wanted to travel. To use a ring, one just needs to imagine their desired location and throw the ring to open a portal. Unfortunately, Sonic loses his bag of rings during a fight with Knuckles and Dr. Robotnik at the alps.
- Longclaw's Map: A map Longclaw left to Sonic when she sent him to Earth. It contains instructions on what Sonic needed to do if he was discovered by the planet's inhabitants. It also contained a hidden message from Longclaw about the Master Emerald which would play when Sonic's energy interacted with it.
Relationships[]
Longclaw[]
I miss you, Longclaw. I'm trying to make you proud.— Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (film) Sonic's first parental figure was Longclaw, who served as both his foster mother and mentor, and took care of him in his early youth. Sonic evidently cared very much about Longclaw and reciprocated her love for him, having run across his island in the open just to bring her a flower. However, he did not always listen to Longclaw's warnings, namely by using his powers in the open despite being told by Longclaw to keep them concealed, certain that he was too fast to be noticed. This, unfortunately, led to the echidna tribe attacking their home and forcing Sonic to flee to Earth without Longclaw, something which Sonic was distraught about, as he did not want to part ways from her. Even then complying to Longclaw's orders, Sonic was unwilling to leave her, as he attempted to come to her rescue when she made her stand against the echidna tribe, only for the Ring portal between them to close up. The loss of Longclaw had a profound impact on Sonic, traumatizing him with the knowledge of what could happen to those close to him if they got caught up in the struggle for his powers. As such, Sonic took Longclaw's last instructions to heart by staying in hiding on Earth for the next ten years and attempting to leave Earth after he was discovered there despite wanting to stay on Earth and hating his next hideout. Over the course of the hunt for the Rings he needed to leave Earth however, Sonic began wondering if Longclaw was wrong about him having a real life with friends on Earth. Eventually though, Sonic chose to stay on Earth with the Wachowskis, with no disrespect to Longclaw. These days, Sonic still keeps mementoes from Longclaw, including a feather of hers, which tend to make him remember Longclaw with both fondness and sadness.
Tom Wachowski[]
I've got a lot more than that, dad.— Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (film) Sonic saw Tom Wachowski as a role model even before they formally met, having formed his opinion of Tom by spying on him from a distance. Sonic would refer to him as "Donut Lord", since Tom talked to doughnuts and ate them "if they [got] out of line". He likewise saw Tom as one of the best people in Green Hills given how he defended "all creatures big and small". Sonic also tried to involve himself in Tom's life from a distance, such as by spying on his and Maddie's movie nights together. Sonic's longing to be a part of Tom's life and his family proved to be so great that he considered himself a part of his family through his spying and eavesdropping in order to deny his own loneliness. Regardless, Sonic trusted Tom to some degree, having gone to Tom's garage during his escape from the United States Army because he was the only one, he could think of. When Sonic and Tom finally met each other face to face, their reaction was far from friendly, with both of them screaming in shock upon seeing each other's reaction and Tom shooting Sonic with a bear tranquilizer. This caused Sonic to accidentally send the Rings he needed to leave Earth to San Francisco, causing Sonic to blame Tom for his entrapment on Earth. Nonetheless, Sonic depended on Tom to stay safe from the United States operative, Dr. Robotnik. Sonic was likewise concerned about Tom's safety, prompting him to reveal himself to Robotnik in order to keep the doctor from killing him. At first, Tom helped Sonic escape Robotnik, but he refused to accompany him in the long run. Sonic, however, persuaded Tom to help him find his Rings, and the two set out on their quest. However, Sonic did not care too much about the whole situation and was even excited about finally being able to spend time with Tom. During their trip to San Francisco, Sonic was still friendly to Tom and acted cool despite their predicament. However, Sonic would irritate Tom with his nonchalance and confidence, although it was soon revealed that he just wanted to make a real friend before leaving Earth. Sonic was likewise annoyed by Tom's attempts to keep him concealed and would disobey his orders to stay hidden. However, Sonic eventually won over Tom with his childish charm and humanity of his own, causing them to bond over a night at the Piston Pit where Sonic was happy for Tom's help in crossing things off his bucket list. During the fight in the bar, he expressed concern about seeing Tom being cornered by thugs and so rushed to his aid. They grew further closer as Sonic admitted his worries and vulnerabilities about leaving Earth for the Mushroom Planet to Tom. The next day, Sonic presumptuously began to see each other as friends, even though Tom said he liked his dog Ozzy more than him. However, Sonic's relationship with Tom got strained when he got personally offended over how Tom was leaving Green Hills for the San Francisco Police Department, and could not understand why he was leaving behind his home and those he knew when he himself had been forced away from his home and his loved ones. However, he eventually came to understand his decision. Sonic also began to see Tom as a protector after he helped him recover from an explosion. Sonic later returned the favor by protecting Tom from Robotnik, and together they banished the doctor to the Mushroom Planet. By this point, Sonic saw Tom as the first friend he had been missing his entire life. Also, when Tom moved Sonic's belongings from his cave to the Wachowski house's attic, Sonic was overjoyed and felt like a Wachowski member. As time went on, Sonic and Tom's relationship would evolve from a friendship to a form of son-and-father relationship, with Tom trying to be a supporting presence to Sonic by reminding him that the time will eventually come for him to use the incredible powers he possesses, but are not allowed to use in public. He would also try to teach him about responsibility and true heroism in order to steer him in the right direction. Although Sonic initially took his lessons lightly, he soon came to understand the depths of his words and used them to convince Knuckles to a truce after noting that he got it from someone who means a lot to him. Eventually, when they fought they were going to be killed by the Giant Eggman Robot, Sonic would tell Tom after he assured him that he was family that he had come to love him like a father, who returned those feelings. Afterwards, Sonic would openly acknowledge Tom as his father figure.
Maddie Wachowski[]
Hey, we're not going anywhere. We're family.— Maddie to Sonic, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (film) Through spying and eavesdropping, Sonic got to know Maddie Wachowski pretty well before they met. He refers to her as "Pretzel Lady", as she is excellent at yoga. Sonic also liked Maddie because of her kindness towards animals. Sonic also tried to involve himself in Maddie's life from a distance, such as by mimicking her yoga poses and spying on her and Tom's movie nights together. Sonic's longing to be a part of Maddie's life and her family proved to be so great that he considered himself a part of her family through his spying and eavesdropping in order to deny his own loneliness. Sonic eventually met Maddie properly after she woke him up from an injury, before greeting her in a friendly matter. After Maddie was convinced by Tom to help Sonic, he and Maddie quickly began collaborating to help Sonic find the Rings needed to go to the Mushroom Planet. While Sonic appreciated that Maddie came to like him, he nevertheless did not like how she called him and Tom "cute" together. Regardless, Sonic protected Maddie from Dr. Robotnik when he attacked them. After the threat of Dr. Robotnik had been dealt with, Sonic had come to see Maddie as a close friend. Also, when Maddie later moved Sonic's belongings from his cave to the Wachowski house's attic, Sonic was overjoyed and felt like a member of the Wachowski family. As time went on, Sonic and Maddie's relationship would evolve from a friendship to a form of son-and-mother relationship, with Maddie helping to steer Sonic in the right direction with Tom's aid. Eventually, when they fought, they were going to be killed by the Giant Eggman Robot, Sonic would tell Maddie after she assured him that he was family that he had come to love her like a mother, who returned those feelings.
Miles "Tails" Prower[]
I'm really glad you're here, Tails.— Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (film) Sonic first met Tails after the latter saved him from Knuckles. Initially, Sonic did not trust Tails due to having just met him, but faced with the threat of Knuckles and Dr. Robotnik, he saw he had little choice in the matter and so he accepted his help. However, Sonic soon became convinced of Tails' good intentions and helpfulness, which prompted him to accepting him as his ally. When Sonic saw Tails felt unsure about coming along on his quest for the Master Emerald, he won him over by promising to protect him with an unbreakable promise. During their subsequent journey in Siberia, Sonic grew slightly uncomfortable upon hearing that Tails had spent the past 8 months spying on him, though the two grew a close bond after they won a dance fight and Sonic learned of how he had become Tails' hero after his first victory over Dr. Robotnik in Green Hills and admitted that he was good after showing profound knowledge about his preferences. He also learned about how Tails was insecure about his two tails, while also ensuring him that it was not a bad thing. Unlike most others, whom he would show an occasional attitude towards, Sonic would remain consistently kind towards Tails. Even when he learned that Tails had been stalking him with his gadgets, he was impressed instead of being disturbed. After Tails was later attacked and knocked unconscious by Robotnik, Sonic put aside his current concerns and focused solely on ensuring Tails' well-being and protecting him. He was very worried when Tails did not wake up, even when the G.U.N. agents locked both of them away. After being rescued by Maddie, Sonic blamed himself for putting Tails in danger, which prompted him to go find the Master Emerald alone. After Tails arrived in the Tornado to pick him up, Sonic was relieved that he was alright and impressed that he was able to find him again. Later, during their fight with Robotnik's Giant Eggman Robot, Sonic and Tails would show close cooperation in battle while at the same time being open to each other's suggestions and ideas. Since then, the two of them have remained good friends, bonded by their oath to guard the Master Emerald with Knuckles, to the point of creating a brotherly bond.
Knuckles the Echidna[]
I found a new family, new friends. And you can, too. You don't have to be alone anymore.— Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (film) Sonic's relationship with Knuckles the Echidna did not get off to a good start. Sonic in particular would show slight distaste towards Knuckles due to his association with the Echidna, who ruined his childhood by separating him from Longclaw and getting him banished from his home. Despite this, Sonic never showed personal hatred towards Knuckles, and would merely act in self-defense during their initial clashes. Initially, Sonic saw Knuckles as a serious threat, who was a more experienced fighter and better suited for combat than himself, whenever he turned up. As time when on though, Sonic would get over his fear and begin seeing Knuckles as more of an annoyance while taunting his with mocking jokes about his temper and reputation. However, the two began to sympathize with each other after learning that they both lost the only people they considered to be their families due to the owls and the echidnas' feud, until Tails arrived and tried to refrain Knuckles, inadvertently causing him to think that Sonic was lying. When they met again in the temple holding the Master Emerald, Sonic stopped pulling his punches and began to brutally attack Knuckles, although with reluctancy since Knuckles forced his hand. Despite the fact that Knuckles repeatedly tried to kill Sonic and treating him with disrespect, Sonic could ultimately not bring himself to treat Knuckles as a real enemy, and would even save him when he was about to drown. In return, Knuckles saved Sonic from drowning as well. The two would then bond after Sonic explained why he did not let Knuckles die even though he had tried to kill him several times, which got Knuckles to open up and convince him of Sonic's honor and heroism. Sonic was later shown to trust Knuckles as a friend from then on, as he affirmed to Tails that he was not a bad guy, but just "mixed up". When later fighting the Giant Eggman Robot, Sonic got Knuckles to acknowledge him as a brave and noble warrior when he offered to be bait for Robotnik. Since then, the two of them have remained good friends, bonded by their oath to guard the Master Emerald with Tails and a friendly rivalry. Despite this, he is shown to be exasperated by Knuckles' naivety and boastful attitude, as demonstrated when they played a round of baseball together. When Knuckles had a hard time adapting to Earth, Sonic felt his friend's problems because he also went through the same thing and tried to advise him to accept Earth as his new home and try to relax, advice that Knuckles followed resoundingly when he converted the house. Wachowski on a battlefield of warriors. However, when Knuckles was grounded by Maddie, Sonic suggested different ways to pass the time and relax.
Dr. Ivo Robotnik[]
Your flying eggs are pretty impressive, Mr. Eggman. But let's face it, you'll never catch me!— Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog (film) As his arch enemy, Sonic sees Dr. Ivo Robotnik as a psychotic madman who only wants to use his power for his own gains and destroy him and his foster family. Despite this, Sonic would tease the doctor by calling him "Eggman" as a reference to his egg-shaped Badniks and mocking his looks. Sonic first met Robotnik when he came to the house of Tom Wachowski, who was hiding him, and threatened to kill Tom if he did not tell where Sonic was. Rather than letting Tom pay the price, Sonic revealed himself to Dr. Robotnik to save Tom. Dr. Robotnik, in turn, was shocked by the sight of Sonic, allowing Tom to knock him out, and him and Sonic to escape him. One of Sonic's primary reasons for leaving Earth after that was to protect those knowing of his existence, namely Tom and Maddie, from Robotnik's wrath. During their later confrontation at the Transamerica Pyramid, Sonic had developed a more fearless attitude towards Robotnik, which he showed by taunting him and boasting confidently that the doctor would never be able to catch him. However, when Robotnik proved himself a threat with his Eggpod vehicle, Sonic took the doctor more seriously, and would even begin to show slight fear of him after finding himself unable to escape him and his Eggpod. After resolving to use his power to protect his friends instead of running away however, Sonic faced Robotnik head-on, eventually defeating him and banishing him to the Mushroom Planet with Tom's aid. When Robotnik returned, Sonic would treat the doctor with even more aggression, going as far as to attempt to attack him as he threatened his loves ones from his foster family. Despite this, Sonic would remain cheeky towards Robotnik, namely by mocking his new look, especially by pointing out his more unkept mustache. As Sonic kept returning to ruin Robotnik's plans though, he would eventually become Robotnik's greatest weak spot, something which Sonic recognized and used to his advantage when fighting Robotnik and his Giant Eggman Robot. Sonic's spite towards Robotnik further intensified after he nearly killed the Wachowskis, though he kept himself calm enough to give Robotnik the option to surrender. When Robotnik failed to do that though, Sonic destroyed the Giant Eggman Robot and left him to fall with it.
Wade Whipple[]
Morning, Wade!— Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (film) Sonic informally met Wade Whipple when he came to his and Tom's defense against Dr. Ivo Robotnik. During his new life in Green Hills, Sonic formed a friendship with Wade, greeting him friendly when he returned from his heroic mission in Seattle and trusts him when he tells him about mysterious noises at the Green Hills Junkyard. While being chased by Robotnik and Knuckles, Sonic and Tails sought refuge to find the Master Emerald, so Sonic took refuge in Wade's house. Sonic seems a little frustrated and uncomfortable when Wade makes some jokes and his lack of concentration in serious situations.

His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]
- Unlike most of his counterparts who could be pretty arrogant and jerkish sometimes, this version of Sonic lacks these qualities.
- He idolized Tom Wachowski for his good deeds during the 10 years he was hiding alone on Earth.
- Although he had a brief moment in which he chastised Tom for leaving Green Hills, even calling him a jerk, it’s somewhat justified as his life was filled with danger and he was chased his entire life while Tom had nothing bad for him, so it‘s more of a Heating Up Period.
- He saved Tom and Maddie from Robotnik at the Transamerica Pyramid and also prevented them from falling to their deaths.
- He saved a turtle from being hit by a car.
- Instead of running away from everyone, he protected the citizens of Green Hills and had Robotnik sent to the Mushroom Planet.
- This inspired Tails to leave his village where everyone thought his two tails were weird to go help him out.
- He truly cares for Longclaw, his family, and Tails.
- After learning that Tails was self conscious about having two tails, Sonic assures him that his trait was not a bad thing helping Tails feel better about himself.
- He sympathized with Knuckles after learning that he also lost the people he considered family.
- When Tails was left unconscious by Robotnik when the latter stole their compass that would lead to the Master Emerald, Sonic ran to his aid instead of retrieving said compass.
- He went to go find the Master Emerald alone, not wanting to put anyone else in danger after Tails got knocked out by Robotnik.
- He saved Knuckles from drowning even though he tried to kill him several times.
- He forgave Knuckles for everything he had done to him previously, knowing that he was manipulated by Robotnik. By then, the two of them became great friends after Knuckles realized he wasn't the bad guy.
- When Robotnik trapped an injured Sonic, Tom and Maddie in a ring of fire, Sonic initially encouraged them to get away from him since it was only him Robotnik was after.
- Using the Chaos Emeralds, he defeated Robotnik and saved the world and possibly the multiverse as a whole.
- Despite having become a powerful entity, Sonic ultimately chooses to part with the Chaos Emeralds, humbly stating that he has more to learn.
- When Knuckles tries to threaten Maddie for grounding him, Sonic told him not to mess with her when she's that mad.
- He tried to cheer up Knuckles during his grounding.
What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]
- He is a bit mischievous, such as when he messed with the bar patrons while speeding, throwing a house party while Tom and Maddie were away, and messing with Crazy Carl and putting the hunter in his own traps.
- He is also a bit reckless at times, such as when he kicked Tom and Maddie off a building and almost got them killed when he goofed off while smashing Robotnik's robots, as it gave Robotnik the time to use his quill to power his ship. Though to be fair, he didn't know about that at the time. Another reckless moment he had was when he drove a bank truck and didn’t know how to stop it while also trying to get rid of some bombs, and threw one into a sewer grate, destroying the city block.
What Makes Him a Shonen Hero?[]
- Heroic/Honorable: Sonic protected the citizens of Green Hills from Dr. Robotnik. Later, Sonic defeats Dr. Robotnik, preventing him from threatening the world.
- Courageous/Reckless: Though Sonic initially runs away from Dr. Robotnik, Sonic has no fear encountering Dr. Robotnik's armies and himself.
- Energetic: Sonic constantly uses his super speed.
- Stubborn: Sonic decides to find the Master Emerald alone as he does not want his friends to be in danger.
- Pursues a Big-End Goal: After years of being alone in the woods, Sonic wants seek companionship and camaraderie.
- Hard-Working: Sonic can be seen training at his old home by running in his homemade treadmill.
- Optimistic: Despite his internal struggles, Sonic remains cheerful throughout his life.
- Determined: Sonic refuses to give up in a fight, especially if it means protecting the ones he cares for.
- Confindent/Cocky: Sonic has high confidence within himself and can have a bit of an ego.
- Believes in the Power of Friendship: Sonic values friendship. Sonic encourages Tails when the latter is self conscious about having two tails, and Sonic saves Knuckles from drowning despite the latter tried to kill Sonic several times. Tails and Knuckles eventually become Sonic's friends.
- Possesses Plot Armor: Sonic manages to survive an explosion from a tiny Eggbot after being healed by Maddie and transforms into Super Sonic before being crushed by a giant Eggbot.
- Spiky Hair: Being a hedgehog, Sonic has quills on his head that is equivalent to having spiky hair.
- Unnatural Hair Color: Unlike real-life hedgehogs, Sonic has blue quills for hair.
- Mischievous: Sonic enjoys pulling pranks on his friends.
- Rebellious: In the second film, Sonic threw a house party at his house despite Tom's demand against it.
- Is a Blood Knight: Sonic is shown to enjoy fighting Dr. Robotnik's robots.
- Is a Primary-Color Champion: Sonic has blue fur and wears red shoes.
- Is a Challenge Seeker: Sonic enjoys battling with Robotnik's robots.
- Is a True Hero: Sonic has saves his family, friends and innocent people from Robotnik multiple times out of a desire to protect them.
- Is a Mascot with Attitude: Just like his gaming counterpart, Sonic has a highly confident, fun-loving attitude, has a need for speed and enjoys extreme sports like skateboarding.
Trivia[]
- In the video game series, Sonic the Hedgehog is a well-renowned hero and adventurer with a cocky attitude. He usually thwarts Doctor Eggman's forces of villainy and any other bringer of injustice alongside his accomplices and friends, most frequently his bestest friend and "brother" Tails.
- Akin to his video game counterpart, Sonic likes to eat chili dogs, ever since he ate several at Piston Pit.
- Sonic refers to himself as a southpaw, yet he has a right-handed batting stance and uses his right hand to write. This may indicate that he is ambidextrous.
- According to Lindsey, Sonic seems to be around 3 feet tall (1 m). He also weighs 62 lbs (28 kg).
- While Longclaw was his guardian as a child, the identity and current status of his biological family is unknown.
- While he was observing him, Tails learned that Sonic prefers bubble baths over a shower.
- Compared to the first film, Sonic has noticeably grown taller by the time the Knuckles episode The Warrior takes place. This can be seen when Sonic sits down on his beanbag during the episode.
- Currently, Sonic is the most redesigned animal character in the Sonic the Hedgehog Cinematic Universe, having separated eyes and blue-colored arms.
- This iteration of Sonic the Hedgehog is the second to sport blue-colored arms after the Sonic Boom character.
- His child-like appearance faintly resembles the "Classic Sonic" design seen in pre-Sonic Adventure (inspired) media.
- Sonic is often nicknamed the "Blue Devil" by Carl. This is the same name of Metal Sonic's vehicle in Sonic Drift 2.
- The film was originally scheduled for release on November 8, 2019. However, after negative reaction to Sonic's previous design in the first trailer, which was released on April 30, Paramount Pictures delayed the film to February 14, 2020, pledging to redesign Sonic.
- Sonic's redesign and Ben's portrayal are well-received by most fans as they felt the blue blur's film appearance were matching his early game's personality.
- However, some fans also feel that Ben's performance makes Sonic sound too whiny in places, and instead wanted either Roger Craig Smith or Jaleel White to take over the role. Jaleel even admitted that he didn't get a call or email from the film's creators, though he's still confident that he is still a Sonic fan in general. The former however approved of Schwartz's performance.
- And the film's distribution, Paramount Pictures, is the same studio that distributed the teen film Mean Girls (2004) with actress Lacey Chabert who is the voice of Princess Elise in the infamous video game Sonic the Hedgehog (2006).
- Compared to his game counterpart, specifically in the 1990s, this incarnation of him seems to be one of the goofiest save for having seriousness in half of occasions specifically final battles.
- When Sonic plays with nunchaku, he wears a headband with the logo from his first game on it.
- He briefly references his classic American box art design's Mowhawk style in the second film, when he was fooling around and making messes while throwing a personal party at home, messing with his quills through alternate quill-styles till he found a style he liked, being a mohawk.
- Even though Sonic was cared for by Longclaw, the identity of Sonic's biological family is currently unknown in this timeline. Its also unknown whatever happened to them.
- This is the second incarnation of Sonic to have blue arms, the first being his Sonic Boom counterpart and the first version to have two separate eyes.
- This is also to be the first incarnation of Sonic who wasn't wearing his trademark sneakers. Prior to that, he was wearing boots as a child and unmatchable worn-out gray sneakers as a teenager.
- The pose when Sonic dodging one of Dr. Robotnik's laser has a striking resemblance to his official Super Smash Bros. Ultimate render.
- Sonic's bioelectricity control ability maybe inspired by his Sonic X counterpart, where in the episode "Cracking Knuckles", he left a trait of electricity on running.
- In the most ironic twist, both actors who voiced Sonic are both named Benjamin: Benjamin "Ben" Schwartz and Benjamin L. Valic.
- Ben Schwartz voices, and also provides the facial motion-capture for Sonic.
- "It is an insane honor, an incredible honor," Ben Schwartz says of being hired to voice Sonic. "I was playing these games as a kid, so the idea that maybe my voice will be the one that brings in a new generation to the Sonic franchise it's incredible. I feel very, very lucky."
- When Sonic starts rolling along the ground, two sounds from the games play simultaneously: the iconic "Spin Attack" sound, and the "Dash Pad" sound.
- When Dr. Robotnik shoots missiles at Sonic on the roof of the Transamerica Pyramid, Sonic puts his hands on his hips and taps his foot impatiently, copying his idle animation pose from the games.
- Jim Carrey is Ben Schwartz's favorite actor and hero.
- Artist Tyson Hesse, who worked on previous Sonic the Hedgehog media, was brought on to lead the redesign.
- Sonic is shown sliding underneath a vehicle at one point to escape weapon fire from Robotnik. His pose while sliding is identical to both the sliding part of his somersault animation in the Sonic Advance games and his sliding animation in the modern games, particularly Sonic Unleashed, Sonic Colors, and Sonic Generations.
- When Sonic blinks, his upper eyelids are the same color as his fur, while his lower eyelids are the same color as his muzzle. This references how Sonic originally had flesh-colored eyelids that were later changed to fur-colored. On a similar note, when Sonic closes his eyes, one can see a line of small-but-present black eyelashes. He also had these in Sonic Adventure and Sonic X. He also has blue eyelids in Sonic Underground.
- Sonic can't swim in the film, or generally in his video games. However, according to Fay Vass from the British Hedgehog Preservation Society: "Actually, hedgehogs are great swimmers, they only get into trouble when ponds have steep edges, and they can't get out. But hedgehogs love a swim."
- Sonic's current video game voice actor Roger Craig Smith approved of Ben Schwartz, who voices Sonic in this movie. The two of them even met in June 2019.
- When Sonic gets a chance to drive as he and Tom flee Dr. Robotnik's drone tank, he calls up the Fast and the Furious franchise. "I feel just like Vin Diesel," Sonic says, and echoes Dominic Toretto's refrain throughout the Fast series about how it's all about family. Neal H. Mortiz, a producer of the film, is also a producer of the Fast series.
- Sonic sneaks around the bar in a cowboy hat and baggy shirt. In Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog (1993) Sonic was infamous for donning a variety of disguises.
- According to press interviews with IGN, Ben Schwartz's favorite Sonic video game is Sonic & Knuckles (1994). Schwartz owned a Sega Game Gear as a child, and played the handheld port. Just prior to the film's release, Schwartz invested in a Sega Genesis Mini, and talked about beating the original Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
- In a deleted scene, Longclaw actually escapes with Sonic to earth, and the duo live together in hiding. In the end, Longclaw still dies before the main action of the story gets going, but she does so of old age, in Sonic's hideout, with Sonic by her side and caring for her. The majority of the clip is unfinished CGI, clearly this idea was scrapped and replaced with the version we got early on. But not too early. Some of the scene looks to be completely done, or very close to it, and it's complete with the version of Sonic that was shown in the film, not the earlier version that was met with an outcry from fans. This means this concept wasn't entirely dropped until some time after the redesign took place.
- As Sonic and Tom fight with Dr. Robotnik's drone, Sonic remarks that he "can't believe Amazon is going to deliver packages with these things." Amazon's "Prime Air" program is a very real thing that they're still trying to get off the ground to today.
- Ben Schwartz' 3rd time voice acting in a theatrical film, after Turbo (2013) and The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part (2019).
- According to early drafts of the script for the first film, Sonic's super form was originally going to appear in the lattter. However, the transformation was cut due to the fact that it did not make any sense to be included this early and because Jeff Fowler wanted to primarily focus more onto the origins of Sonic and Dr. Robotnik's relationship before introducing the other elements. So it instead appeared at the end of the sequel.
- Sonic is nicknamed "Blue Devil" in the movie by Crazy Carl, which is a reference to the car driven by his robotic nemesis Metal Sonic in the kart racing game Sonic Drift Racing (1995).
- Sonic has some food-related nicknames for people he knows:
- Tom is Donut Lord for how he "interrogates" his donuts.
- Maddie is "Pretzel Lady" for how she does yoga on her back porch.
- and he starts calling Dr. Robotnik "Eggman" (a classic name for the character) for how all his drones are egg-shaped.
- Sonic is the fifth character voiced by Ben Schwartz to be associated with the color blue. The other four were: Skidmark in Turbo (2013), Uncle Steve the Troll in Nickelodeon's Wallykazam! (2014) two-parter special Wallykazam!: The Big Goblin Problem (2015), Dewey Duck in DuckTales (2017), and Leonardo in Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2018).
- The Flash is seen to be Sonic's favorite superhero. Both are speedster heroes, obviously.
- Sonic's bare feet are never shown, but they are shown having five toes on Dr. Robotnik's foot scan.
- A young Sonic gives Longclaw a sunflower. They can be seen in the first level of Sonic the Hedgehog (1991).
- During his slow-motion moment in the bar fight, Sonic eats chili dogs and utterly enjoys them. Sonic is said to love chili dogs in the video games/cartoons.
- According to the writer of the IDW Sonic comics, Ian Flynn, this counterpart of Sonic is the fastest in the franchise, although this is a bit contradictory, considering that Sonic from the games and Archie Sonic have higher speed feats.
- When Sonic wakes up after Maddie administers the smelling salts, his first words are the character's longtime catchphrase, "Gotta go fast!"
- When Sonic moves into Tom and Maddie's attic, he gets a racecar bed, which he had in the Archie Comics "Sonic the Hedgehog" series.
- Sonic's constant distaste for mushrooms and the Mushroom Planet refers to the Mushroom Hill Zone in Sonic & Knuckles (1994), where Sonic met Knuckles the Echidna, as well as his occasional rivalry with the Nintendo character Mario, who uses mushrooms to become powerful.
- In the first movie, Sonic's feelings towards water are not fully shown. But he does get a bit annoyed when he apparently runs into water in a single attempt to find San Francisco by himself. However, In the second movie, is shown to dislike vast bodies of water because he is unable to swim, or even stay afloat in water for long, if at all.
- Early in the film, when Sonic is hiding from the people of Green Hills, Crazy Carl keeps trying to catch him. He draws a picture of Sonic, and the drawing happens to look exactly like the internet meme Sanic Hegehog.
- Sonic says "Gotta Go Fast!" when Maddie wakes him with smelling salts, referencing the heavily memed line from the theme song of Sonic X. Later on, Jojo, Tom's niece, is seen running around the coffee table repeating the phrase ad nauseam.
- At the Piston Pit, Sonic orders nachos, buffalo wings, and when the order doesn't arrive, he downs an entire basket of chili dogs during his Bullet Time run inside the bar.
- Sonic uses grungy used sneakers to run around in for most of the movie, but gets his trademark red and white sneakers later on.
- Sonic the Hedgehog has shades of this in both design and personality:
- Following the redesign, Sonic's design has struck a balance between his Classic, Modern, and Boom designs. He has the height, larger torso, and attire from the Classic design in addition of being a little bit younger, the green eyes, darker blue fur color, and quill length of the Modern design, and the blue arms, scruffy/bushy quills, and visible neck and shoulders from his Boom design. He also maintains his general expressiveness from all three designs. Additionally, his trainers appear to be a hybrid of both his iconic Power Sneakers and the Soap Shoes from Sonic Adventure 2.
- Personality-wise, he's mainly his Modern self: being cocky, cool and not being one to take most things seriously, but simultaneously knowing when to step up once things truly get dangerous. However, he also likes to horse around and be silly much like his Boom and Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog incarnations.
- In regards to his abilities, along with his speed he also has electrical powers which are tied to his emotions, specifically his anger. The only character in the Sonic mythos who has elemental powers that are fueled by emotions is Blaze the Cat.
- The film's version of the Rings are a composite of the Rings that players collect in the games and the Giant Rings in the games that act as transport to the Special Zones. This has the effect of making the rings identical in appearance and function to the Warp Rings created by Doctor Finitevus in Sonic the Hedgehog (Archie Comics).
- Longclaw being an owl who is initially the only character on Sonic’s world to be aware of Sonic’s existence, makes her a rough analogue of Sophocles, an owl from Stay Sonic who was mentioned as the first one to discover Sonic. But her acting as Sonic’s mentor and Parental Substitute and being the one to give him the Power Rings is taken from Uncle Chuck from Sonic the Hedgehog (SatAM). She is also a mother figure to Sonic that has to abandon him at a young age to protect him from a greater threat much like Queen Aleena from Sonic Underground.
- The first trailer shows Sonic causing the EMP blast by running down a remote road too fast. The accident actually happened at a baseball field.
- The second trailer implies the accident was the result of Sonic running too fast scoring points, being reckless, not caring about any collateral damage he may be causing. In the actual film, however, it's an Angst Nuke, as Sonic's loneliness and frustration from 10 years of forced isolation finally boil over. He also reacts to the EMP with immediate horror, and it's implied he didn't even know he could do that.
- The trailer makes it appear that Sonic is enjoying his life on Earth despite being alone. This isn't the case at all: he was forced out of his own home planet to escape capture and hasn't interacted with anyone in 10 years, turning him into a depressed loner.
- The trailers also show Sonic wearing his signature red sneakers throughout, while in the film, he spends most of his screen-time wearing worn-out mismatched grey shoes. He wouldn't receive his super sneakers until about two-thirds into the movie.
- Despite this, the scene that takes place right later on in the film is shown right at the beginning of the film, and Sonic himself claims how he ended up in that situation, where Sonic runs through San Francisco while Dr. Robotnik chases him in his egg pod, and of course is wearing his signature red sneakers since he received them from Jojo (Rachel's daughter) right before the said scene.
- The second trailer also shows Sonic running around the Green Hill Zone-esque island on his homeworld as a teenager and notably wearing his signature red sneakers, which he only received on earth in the film. In the film, Sonic was forced to flee from his homeworld as a small child and has not returned since. This trailer scene very well notably refers to the first level of Sonic the Hedgehog (1991) when the player moves Sonic through Green Hill Zone.
- A trailer for Baby Sonic depicts him wearing his signature red shoes instead of brown boots in the scene from the film where he gifts Longlaw a sunflower. A Japanese poster of Baby Sonic also depicts him wearing his red shoes.
- On the cover of the novelization for the first film, Sonic is seen wearing basic red and white shoes which he is not nowhere wearing in the actual film. This was also used in some stock artwork's of him, instead of wearing his signature red and white sneakers.
- Some lines from the movie are used in different contexts between the trailer and the movies. For example, Sonic saying "Gotta Go Fast!" isn't said when he's about to start running along the Montana desert highway, but rather after being woken with smelling salts.
- The trailers played fast and loose with the detail of why Sonic is on Earth. The first trailer and the international version of the second trailer states Sonic came to Earth to save it, but in the actual film the actual reason why Sonic is on Earth is that his adoptive mother Longclaw sent him to Earth a decade ago to protect him from an echidna tribe after his power. The US version of the second trailer was more honest about this, with Sonic talking about how on his world "people were always after my power".
- This is how Sonic's offensive abilities actually work. His body starts producing blue lightning whenever he starts feeling angry, extreme joy, sorrow, etc. while his eyes would turn from green to glowing blue. The first example of this power being shown was during the baseball scene where Sonic realizes that he is completely all alone and all the stress of being alone on Earth for 10 years causes Sonic to emit a powerful electromagnetic blast that caused a blackout across the Pacific. Come the end of the film, The Power of Friendship causes Sonic to consciously bring out his full power, and it is implied that he has learned to control this.
- Sonic's motivation is making a real friend. Because of Longclaw's instruction to never let anyone see him, Sonic stays out of sight in Green Hills. But he becomes desperately lonely after so much isolation. One of the items on his "bucket list" is to make a real friend. By the end of the movie, he's made a genuine friend with Tom and his wife Maddie.
- When Sonic is watching Speed behind the Wachowskis' back, he repeats the "pop quiz, hot shot" line from said movie. He says the line again at the Piston Pit, right before he instigates the Bar Brawl.
- Sonic doesn't get a lot of people to talk to, so once he does, it's hard to shut him up. Even when Tom and Maddie step outside to have a moment to themselves, Sonic's still talking in the other room, even though no one's listening to him. Even before Sonic gets anyone to interact with he's seen talking to himself repeatedly, which is implied to be a coping mechanism to deal with his loneliness.
- Along with Knuckles, his childhood is shown, while his game counterparts one is a mystery.
- As he is officially claimed to be 13 years old in the first film, this means he was born in 2006-2007 in this timeline.
- As its being claimed he was living on Earth for 10 years, he came to Earth in 2010.
- He is the second CGI main hero to be friends with a character portrayed by James Marsden, the first being E.B. from Hop.
- His design as a child appears to be inspired by the look of Classic Sonic.
- Much like his original American, Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, Archie, Sonic the Comic, SatAM and Sonic Underground counterparts he hails from the planet Mobius.
- Although while this quote is not present in the film, Sonic calling the doctor "Robuttnik" in the novelization is one of Sonic's most famous insults to Dr. Robotnik in the original Sonic cartoons and comics.
- If Sonic is compared to lying on his bean bag from the first movie to him doing the same in the Knuckles TV show trailer, it shows Sonic has grown bigger.
- In the 1st movie, Sonic referred to Dr. Robotnik as Eggman. In Sonic The Hedgehog 2, Sonic Drone Home, and the Knuckles TV series, he referred to Dr. Robotnik by his name.
