Greenslopes Private Hospital in Brisbane has long been associated with veterans. As a repatriation hospital that first opened in 1942, it’s a place where those who served Australia could find comfort while they healed from the wounds of war. This history made it an ideal location to establish the RSL South Eastern District’s Veteran Wellbeing Coordination Centre. Since opening in 2016, the centre has been providing vital support to Brisbane’s veteran community. Australia experienced its worst peacetime military aviation disaster 28 years ago today. On 12 June 1996, two Australian Army Black Hawk helicopters collided in the Townsville Field Training Area. Tragically, fifteen members of the Special Air Service Regiment and three from the 5th Aviation Regiment died in the accident. Today we honour the fallen, the survivors, and their loved ones.
