Granola Bars Vs Flapjacks

But while I was researching for my healthy flapjacks recipe, I made a discovery. That was that flapjacks exist around the world, with slight modifications and different names.

In England and Ireland they are known as flapjacks, but in Australia and New Zealand they are known as cereal bars and in the US and Canada as the granola bar or oat bar.

But what makes it even more interesting, is that the cereal bar known in England has a lot of mixed cereal in it and very little in oats.

So, I can imagine tourists getting confused between the two.

Also, in the US flapjacks are often compared to the pancake which is very different from the classic flapjack.

Notes

I peeled, removed the core of my apple and steamed it in the Instant Pot for 0 minutes as its much quicker than any other method and made sure it was thinly diced. The wet ingredients work as the non-stick so that you don’t have to coat your baking pan before cooking.

Whether you blend the oats or not is personal choice. If they are blended it gives a much nicer smoother texture. Or you can go with the middle ground and blend half and then keep the other half as full-sized oats. You can add any of your favourite granola extras.

If you have dried fruit, coconut flakes, then these would be perfect in your chewy granola bars too. We used our air fryer baking pan. If you don’t have one or are looking for new ideas, then check out our air fryer accessories guide. We used Bob’s Red Mill Gluten Free Oats to make our chewy granola bars.
