#1 Oklahoma City Thunder vs #5 Dallas Mavericks
The Oklahoma City Thunder play against the Dallas Mavericks this afternoon at 2:30 p.m. CT on ABC. This matchup will be game 3 of the second round series, with the series currently tied 1-1. After a terrible showing in the series opener, the Mavericks were able to bounce back and steal game 2 on the road. So, they have a slight advantage in the series because the next two games will be played in Dallas.
Star Mavericks guard Luka Dončić had an incredible game on Thursday, as he finished with a team-high 29 points and shot 5-8 from beyond the arc. Dončić was assisted by forward P.J. Washington, who also finished with 29 points. This was a massive overperformance from Washington, as he is currently averaging 13 points per game this postseason.
The Thunder had great games from their two best scorers, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Jalen Williams. However, their combined 53 points were not enough to get the game 2 victory. So, they will have to get a little more help from their role players to win game 3 on the road tonight.
#1 Boston Celtics vs #4 Cleveland Cavaliers
The Boston Celtics are scheduled to play against the Cleveland Cavaliers in game 3 of their second round series tonight at 7:30 p.m. CT on ABC. After a dominant game 1 victory, the Celtics were blown out at home on Thursday. So, the Cavaliers evened the series 1-1 heading into game 3 in Cleveland tonight.
Star Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell showcased his scoring ability with a 29 point performance, which included a field goal percentage higher than 50%. Unlike game 1, Mitchell had a lot of offensive help during game 2. This offensive assistance led to the Cavaliers running the Celtics out of their own gym with a 118-94 victory. Notably, shooting guard Caris LeVert scored 21 points in the win, which was a 17 point increase from his game 1 performance.
The Celtics had decent performances from their star players, Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. Both players combined for 44 points in the loss, but they did not receive much help from their teammates on Thursday. Derrick White is the third-leading scorer for the Celtics this postseason, but he was struggling offensively during game 2. He only scored 10 points, which is 11 points less than his postseason average this season. If the Celtics want to win in Cleveland tonight, then they will need better performances from their role players.
